DAVENPORT, Fla. – The University of New Haven women's lacrosse team opened up its Spring Break trip in the Sunshine State with a 22-17 victory over the Assumption College Greyhounds on Sunday afternoon at Northeast Regional Park in Davenport, Fla. The game also served as the Northeast-10 Conference opener for both teams.
Leading the Chargers offense on the day was sophomore attack Caroline Maher (Mansfield, Mass./Mansfield) who finished with a career-high six goals and an assist for seven points. Maher was one of four players to finish with a hat trick as she was followed by junior midfielder Mackenzie Reh (Medford, N.Y./Patchogue Medford) who found the back of the net five times, extending her team lead in that category to 11 goals through the first two games. Reh also added one assist for six total points, while securing five draw controls.
Sophomore attack Julia Jette (Franklin, Mass./Franklin) also completed her second hat trick of the season, closing out the first Florida game with four goals, a career-best for the Franklin, Mass. native. Rounding out the leading scorers was senior attack Jessica Mazliah (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) who finished with three goals, while dishing out a team-high five assists, which gives her 14 total through the first two games of the season. She also finished with a team-high eight points, while securing one draw control.
Three other Chargers provided offensive assistance on the day with junior attack Samantha Galler (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield) netting a pair of scores, while sophomore midfielder Kendra Nolan (Oak Ridge, N.J. /Jefferson Township ) and freshman midfielder Emily Holland (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) each chipped in with one goal. Nolan also added an assist, while finishing second on the team with nine draw controls. Sophomore defender Raven Linton (Lawrenceville, N.J./Notre Dame) led New Haven with 10 draw controls.
Sophomore goalkeeper Gianna Guerra (Thiells, N.Y./North Rockland) made her second appearance between the pipes for the Blue and Gold, securing her first victory of the season. Playing the full 60 minutes against the Greyhounds, Guerra stopped 10 shots.
The Chargers will conclude their southern trip on Tuesday, March 13 when they take on the East Coast Conference's LIU Post. Opening draw against the Pioneers is slated for 11:00 a.m. at Disney's Wide World of Sports.
