WEST HAVEN, Conn. – New Haven field hockey is set for a midweek matchup at Stonehill on Wednesday afternoon at 3 p.m. With three games remaining in the regular season, the Chargers currently sit in eighth place in the Northeast-10 standings, the final qualifying spot for the upcoming NE10 Tournament.
INSIDE THE SERIES
The Chargers are currently 0-2 all-time against the Skyhawks, having dropped a matchup in each of the last two seasons.
SCOUTING THE CHARGERS (5-10, 5-6 NE10)
Holding a school record five wins on the season, the Chargers have dropped two games in a row, including a 2-1 overtime defeat to Saint Thomas Aquinas and a 2-0 loss to No. 9 Southern New Hampshire, both at home. New Haven previously pulled out a hard-fought 2-1 road win in double overtime at Saint Michael's on Oct 12.
In their third season as a varsity program, the Chargers won one game in conference play in 2018 and have already rattled off five this season. The team's 1-0 blanking of Southern Connecticut was also the first shutout win in program history. The team is 5-1 this year in games where they have scored goal.
Junior goaltender
Natalie Shaker (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) tied a career-high with 22 saves on Sept. 25 at No. 9 Adelphi, and currently ranks second in the NE10 this season with 135 saves.
Sophomore
Julia Battino (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield Memorial) scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season on a penalty stroke in double overtime at Saint Michael's on Oct. 12. Sophomore
Taylor Geaglone (Enfield, Conn./Enfield) scored her first goal of the year with just over four minutes remaining in regulation against STAC, and has a team-leading two assists. Freshmen
Zharria John (Piscataway, N.J./Piscataway) and
Katie Durkee (Salem, Conn./East Lyme) each have an assist.
SCOUTING THE SKYHAWKS (7-5, 7-3 NE10)
Winners of four of their last six games, Stonehill is coming off a 1-0 loss at home to No. 6 Adelphi. All five of the team's losses this year have come against ranked opponents, while also picking up a top-10 win over then-No. 7 Assumption, 1-0 back on Sept. 17.
