THE LEAD
The women's volleyball team looks to build on the momentum of a four-match win streak when they welcome the Southern New Hampshire Penmen to Charger Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon. Each of the last four victories for the Blue and Gold have come in four sets while SNHU looks to maintain the momentum of three-straight wins.
SERIES HISTORY VS SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE
In a series that dates back to 1984, the Chargers hold a commanding 17-1 lead in the all-time series against the Penmen. New Haven look to build on four straight against SNHU in the series, with the Penmen's only victory coming on November 8, 2014. The Chargers opened up the series winning the first 13 straight before SNHU found its first, and only, victory. Including the three set losses in the only SNHU victory, the Chargers have only surrendered seven total sets against the Penmen across all 18 matches.
SCOUTING THE CHARGERS
New Haven has won its last four straight matches and nine of its last 10 heading into the second of back-to-back home games against Southern New Hampshire. For the season, senior
Mallory Nowicki (Grand Rapids, Mich./Northview) leads the Chargers with 178 kills. Just behind her is junior
Kali Greathead (Temecula, Calif./Temecula Valley) with 177 kills, including a high for all players this season with 21 against Mercy. The duo is joined in triple digits by sophomore
Ruby Fera (Seattle, Wash./Ballard) (176 kills) and junior
Camille Garden (Atlanta, Ga./Landmark Christian) (146 kills). Of the leading hitters Garden leads the way with a .249 attack percentage while she also adds a team-high 55 blocks, third most in the NE10. The Chargers utilize a 6-2 rotation at the setter position with junior
Angela Chan (Jacksonville, Fla./Bishop Kenny) (427 assists) and freshman
Sammie Paguia (Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge) (256 assists) splitting the workload. Defensively, New Haven has relied on rookie libero
Julia Guarniere (Milford, N.H./Milford) to do the majority of the work, racking up 353 digs, while sophomore
Jalynn Finnie (Pearland, Texas/Dawson) and Nowicki follow Garden in the blocking efforts with 25 and 34 total returns, respectively.
SCOUTING THE PENMEN
Winners in its last three, including a sweep of Saint Michael's in its most recent match, Southern New Hampshire is currently tied for sixth in the Northeast-10 with the top eight teams earning the postseason bid to the conference championship. Leading the Penmen into the weekend is freshman outside hitter Juliana Pacini who has collected 164 kills, one of two players in double figures for the season. Joining her in leading the offense is senior middle and right side Baylee Lippincott with 123 kills. Of the pair, Lippincott leads the way with a .228 attack percentage while also leading the team with 38 total blocks.
