WEST HAVEN, Conn. – New Haven and Southern Connecticut State will renew their battle for the Elm City this Wednesday afternoon in men's soccer at Kathy Zolad Stadium at 4 p.m.
INSIDE THE SERIES
New Haven is 11-40-3 all-time against SCSU has not beaten Southern Connecticut State since 1984, spanning 33 consecutive matchups. The stretch includes 30 losses and three ties. The Owls have won by one goal each of the last two seasons.
SCOUTING THE CHARGERS (2-5-1, 0-4-1 NE10)
New Haven is seeking to regain its footing in the midst of a five-game winless streak. Following a 2-1 start to the year, the Chargers dropped four in a row, three of which were by one goal, before playing to a 1-1 draw in their last match at Stonehill on Saturday. Two of the team's losses came by a 4-3 score at No. 1 Adelphi and a 2-1 overtime defeat at Saint Anselm. In Saturday's draw at Stonehill, New Haven outshot the Skyhawks 19-12, allowing just three shots on goal.

Kledis Capollari (Pogradec, Albania/Guilderland) has scored two goals over the last three games off the bench. Senior
Nate Peduzzi (Old Lyme, Conn./Lyme-Old Lyme) leads the Chargers with four goals and eight points. Sophomore
JP Viruet (Seymour, Conn./Seymour) and junior
Sean Skeens (Auckland, New Zealand/Westlake Boys) each have a pair of goals, while junior
Estanislao Desseno (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Saint Patrick College) leads the way with four assists. Viruet also adds two assists to his credit.
As a team, New Haven is scoring 1.75 goals per game this season, while allowing 2.13. New Haven has had a good amount of success off set pieces so far this season, scoring seven goals off corner and free kicks through their first eight games.
SCOUTING THE OWLS (2-2-4, 1-2-2 NE10)
Well rested, SCSU will enter Wednesday after having a full week off from their last game, when they played to a 1-1 tie against national No. 1 Adelphi. The Owls also tied Mercy 2-2 to open the season and have wins over New York Tech (3-1) and Stonehill (2-0).
In their most recent game against Adelphi, Utgaard scored in the 87th minute for a 1-0 lead before the Panthers fought back to tie the score with 24 seconds remaining to force overtime.
Scoring 1.63 goals per game and allowing 1.75, the Owls are led by Utgaard and Francisco Roldan, who have three goals and six point apiece. Devante Teixeira leads the Owls with points off two goals and four assists.

The Chargers will enjoy a weekend off before returning to action next Tuesday, Oct. 15 at home for a non-conference matchup against Post at 3:30 p.m.
