WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Charger men's soccer will wrap up its 2019 season on Wednesday afternoon at home when it hosts Bentley at 4 p.m.
INSIDE THE SERIES
Holding a 4-11-1 record all-time against Bentley, the Chargers have dropped five straight matches in the series dating back to 2014.
SCOUTING THE CHARGERS (4-10-1, 2-8-1 NE10)
New Haven has dropped its last four games dating back to a dramatic 3-2 overtime win over Saint Michael's on Oct. 19. Most recently, the Chargers dropped a gut wrenching 3-2 double-overtime defeat at Le Moyne on Saturday. The Chargers have also dropped a pair of 3-0 finals to Franklin Pierce and Assumption during the streak. Senior
Nate Peduzzi (Old Lyme, Conn./Lyme-Old Lyme) retook the team lead with his fifth goal of the season on Saturday.
JP Viruet (Seymour, Conn./Seymour) is second on the team with four goals and 10 points.
Junior
Sean Skeens (Auckland, New Zealand/Westlake Boys) has three goals in his first year with the Chargers, tying for third on the squad with six points alongside freshman
Jon Calvo's (Vitoria, Spain/Olabide Ikastola) two goals and two assists. Freshman
David Peteri (Rotterdam, Netherlands/Erasmiaans Gymnasium) has a pair of goals, and
Estanislao Desseno (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Saint Patrick College) and
Alvaro Ezpeleta (Vigo, Spain/Colegio Amor de Dios) are tied with a team-high four assists.
As a team, New Haven is scoring 1.60 goals per game this season, while allowing 2.33 per game. New Haven has had a good amount of success off set pieces so far this season, scoring nine goals off corner and free kicks.
SCOUTING THE FALCONS (8-7-0, 6-5-0 NE10)
After a strong start to conference play, the Falcons have dropped their last four matches in a row, including a 1-0 double overtime loss against Southern Connecticut and a 4-2 loss at No. 1 Adelphi. The current skid immediately follows a four-match win streak that spanned the first half of October that featured a trio of 2-1 wins.
Bentley is scoring 1.40 goals per game this season, putting them 10th in the NE10, two spots behind New Haven. Defensively, their 1.50 goals-against average is seventh overall.
Senior forward Julian Stewart has eight goals, tying him for fifth in the NE10, and 18 points, which ties him for seventh. Junior Connor Mote boasts 17 points on seven goals and a team-leading three assists.
Senior Nick Maldarella has played every minute of every game in goal this season, allowing a 1.50 GAA that ranks 10th in the NE10, and a .770 save percentage that ranks tied for fifth.
