WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The University of New Haven women's basketball team was recognized by the Alzheimer's Association Connecticut Chapter as the Top Volunteer Group for the 2018 New Haven Walk to End Alzheimer's. This is the second straight year that the Chargers' women's basketball team was honored with the award, which was presented on Wednesday evening.
The team volunteered at the Walk to End Alzheimer's back on September 30. The annual event, which takes place at Lighthouse Point Park raised more than $293,000 for Alzheimer's care, support and research.
The Walk to End Alzheimer's is held annually in more than 600 communities nationwide. The Chargers were just part of a volunteer corps that provided support with event set up, registration and check-in, water stations, cheerleading and much more.
The Walk to End Alzheimer's was one of multiple events this fall for the women's basketball team who also volunteered at the New Haven Road Race on Labor Day.
