Women's Lacrosse Gears Up for NE10 Semifinal Matchup Against Merrimack

The University of New Haven women's lacrosse team survived the quarterfinals of the NE10 Championship with a 13-12 overtime win against Pace to move on to the semifinals. The sixth seeded Chargers will head to Syracuse, N.Y. for the semifinal matchup against the seventh seeded Merrimack College Warriors on Saturday May 4th. The two will battle it out for a trip to the NE10 Championship on Sunday. In the regular season meeting, the Chargers took down the Warriors, 20-15 at Kathy Zolad Stadium.  

 

Scouting New Haven

The No. 19 University of New Haven Chargers overcame a five-goal deficit to force overtime before Mackenzie Reh (Medford, N.Y./Patchogue Medford) netted the game-winner against third seeded Pace in the NE10 quarterfinals on Wednesday evening. Marina Skelly (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Connequot) and Reh both finished with a hat trick, while Emily Holland (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) and Kendra Nolan (Oak Ridge, N.J./Jefferson Township) both scored twice and Samantha Galler (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield), Caroline Maher (Mansfield, Mass./Mansfield) and Julia Jette (Franklin, Mass./Franklin) all scored a goal. Maher had a team-high three assists, while Holland had two and Reh had one. Gianna Guerra (Stony Point, N.Y./North Rockland) earned her 11th victory of the season in goal and added her name to the record book. Her 14 saves against the Setters brought her season total to 184, which is the new single season saves record. Reh was named Midfielder of the Year earlier this week and was also named to the first team All-Conference. Four other Chargers also picked up All-Conference nods as Raven Linton (Lawrenceville, N.J./Notre Dame) earned a spot on the first team, Guerra was named to the second team, Nolan was named to the third team, and Skelly earned a spot on the all-rookie team. Reh, the Chargers leading scorer, has 88 goals and 110 points. The midfielder also has 22 assists and 68 draw controls. Nolan leads the team with 112 draw controls and is second on the team with 40 goals. Linton has a team-high 35 caused turnovers and has 88 draw controls. Jette leads the team in assists with 42. In addition to her 184 saves, Guerra has a .515 save percentage this season. 

 

Scouting Merrimack

For the first time in Warriors' program history, No. 22 Merrimack defeated No. 2 Adelphi in the quarterfinal round. The Warriors were down three early in the contest, but overcame that deficit to upset the Panthers. Amber Feminella led the team with six goals against Adelphi. Haley Bartlett was right behind her, scoring five goals. Bridget Schofield scored twice and Ally DaCosta scored the game-winning goal for the Warriors. DaCosta led the team with 10 points, behind her goal and nine assists. In goal, Laruen Trepaney made 15 saves to finish with a .517 save percentage. The win marked Trepany's 20th career victory which is tied for first in career wins by a Warriors goalkeeper. Four members of the Warriors earned All-Conference accolades earlier this week. Feminella earned a spot on the second team, Bartlett and Schofield were named to the third team, and Olivia Valdes earned a spot on the all-rookie team. Feminella and Bartlett both have a team-high 54 goals this season. Feminella also has a 19 assists for a team-high 73 points and leads the team with 78 draw controls. DaCosta leads the team with 42 assists. Valdes is second on the team with 42 draw controls. Trepany has 177 saves and a .512 save percentage this season. 

 

Next Up

The winner of this matchup will move on to the NE10 Championship that will take place on Sunday, May 5th at Ted Grant Field in Syracuse, N.Y. The winner will face either top-seeded Le Moyne or fifth seeded Assumption. Championship game time is slated for 1:00 pm.
