Full release at AVCA.org

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The New Haven volleyball program has been recognized with an AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2018-19 academic year. The Chargers were one of 141 Division II women's volleyball programs recognized by the American Volleyball Coaches Association with this year's awards.

As a team, the Chargers achieved a 3.33 grade-point average during the 2018-19 academic year and had nine student-athletes land on the Northeast 10 Conference Academic Honor Roll. Rising senior Mallory Nowicki (Grand Rapids, Mich./Northview) was named Academic All-NE10 while accumulating a cumulative GPA of 3.75 as a business management major.

To be eligible, collegiate and high school volleyball teams must display excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale. The Chargers were one of nine programs from the Northeast 10 to be honored.

On the court, New Haven finished with a 26-6 overall record and a 13-1 mark in NE10 play. They earned the No. 1 seed in the East Region for the second straight year and hosted the NCAA Regional Championship for the 19th time in program history. The Chargers will open up the 2019 season on Sept. 6 with four matches at the Ferris State Invitational.
