THE LEAD
Fresh off of head coach
Christa Cooper's first career head coaching victory , the University of New Haven volleyball team looks to build off an impressive three-set sweep of Post when they host Bloomfield for a Saturday afternoon match up.
SERIES HISTORY
New Haven and Bloomfield meet for the fourth time in the history of the two programs with the series dating back to the 2002 season. The Chargers hold a perfect 3-0 record in the previous three meetings and in fact have not surrendered a set against the Bears. The most recent meeting between the two squads came on October 11 also at Charger Gym.
SCOUTING THE CHARGERS
The Chargers opened up their home slate hitting .303 for the day against Post, surrendering just 30 total points to the Eagles across the three sets. Leading the way for New Haven was sophomore outside hitter
Ruby Fera (Seattle, Wash./Ballard) who completed her third-straight double double with 13 kills and 13 digs. Fera's 13 kills alone outhit the Eagles who combined for just 12 kills total as a team. For the season, Fera leads the Chargers with 53 kills, one of four players with 30 or more hammers across the five matches. Joining her is senior
Mallory Nowicki (Grand Rapids, Mich./Northview) (48 kills) and juniors
Kali Greathead (Temecula, Calif./Temecula Valley) (46) and
Camille Garden (Atlanta, Ga./Landmark Christian) (31). Garden is also tied for the team lead with 11 total blocks.
SCOUTING THE BEARS
Bloomfield will play its second NE10 opponent in three matches this season when they travel to West Haven on Saturday. The Bears opened up the 2019 campaign with a pair of home matches on Saturday, September 7 dropping a three set decision to Stonehill and defeating University of the Sciences in four sets. Leading Bloomfield through its opening two matches is senior Danielle Quintanar who racked up 19 kills and 20 digs on the weekend. Among her highlights in the early season was a double double in the win over USciences where she finished with 12 kills and 10 digs.
UP NEXT
New Haven will close out a three-match home stand on Tuesday, September 17 when they welcome Molloy to Charger Gymnasium for a 7:00 p.m. match.
