WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Riding the wave of the first back-to-back wins in program history, the New Haven field hockey team will look to extend its winning streak to three games on Wednesday afternoon at No. 9 Adelphi. This will be the first of six games on the Chargers' schedule against teams currently ranked in the NFHCA's DII National Coaches
Top 10 Poll.
INSIDE THE SERIES
New Haven had dropped both of its matchups the last two years to Adelphi, with both of those games coming at home. Wednesday will be the team's first road trip to Adelphi.
SCOUTING THE CHARGERS (3-4, 3-1 NE10)
The Chargers have not lost a game this year in which they have scored, winning three games in NE10 play, and suffering four shutout losses thus far in 2019. Last week's 4-2 win over Molloy was New Haven's first win by multiple goals in program history. The team's three wins in conference play are tied for the most with Saint Anselm, SNHU, and Stonehill, all of whom are nationally ranked in the latest NFHCA poll.
Sophomore
Julia Battino (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield Memorial) scored her third goal of the season in Saturday's win at American International, moving into the team lead in that category. Sophomore
Alexis Rider (Delran, N.J./Delran) registered a two-goal night last Wednesday against Molloy. Sophomore
Taylor Geaglone (Enfield, Conn./Enfield) boasts a team-leading two assists, while freshman
Zharria John (Piscataway, N.J./Piscataway) has the team's other assist. Junior goaltender
Natalie Shaker (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) stopped eight of 11 shots in two games last week, putting her in a tie for the third most saves in the NE10 with 50.
SCOUTING THE PANTHERS (4-2, 2-1 NE10)
Adelphi also enters Wednesday on a two-game winning streak, coming off wins of 4-1 over Saint Thomas Aquinas and 5-1 over Saint Michael's, both on the road. Adelphi leapt into the top 10 last week for the first time this season and second time under third-year head coach Mary Moore. Tied for 10th last week, AU rose one spot to No. 9 in this week's rankings.
The Panthers two defeats this season have both come against nationally-ranked opponents; a pair of 3-0 losses to then-No. 4 (current No. 1) Millersville and then-No. 6 (current No. 4) Saint Anselm. AU started the season with a 2-1 win over current No. 5 Kutztown.
The Panthers are led by Jackie Brown (four goals, one assist) and Elissa Frein (three goals, three assists) with nine points each. Danielle Kempf has scored a pair of goals. The Panthers have split time in goal with Alexandra
Kanapes holding a 0.80 GAA through three games, and Angelina Saunders sporting a 2.47 GAA with one shutout through four starts.
