WEST HAVEN, Conn. – After starting with four straight home matches to begin the season, the New Haven men's soccer team will hit the road for the first time this season at No. 1 Adelphi on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m.

INSIDE THE SERIES
On Sept. 19, 2018, the Chargers scored three goals within the final nine minutes to take down the Panthers for the first time in program history, 6-3. Adelphi had previously won the first five matchups from 2013-2017.

SCOUTING THE CHARGERS (2-2-0, 0-1-0 NE10)
New Haven opened up the season by going 2-2 on its four-game homestand. Senior Nate Puduzzi leads the team with three goal and six points, including a two-goal effort in a 3-0 win over Nyack last Tuesday. JP Viruet (Seymour, Conn./Seymour) has two goals and has registered at least one point in three out of four matches, including goals in back-to-back games against Molloy and Nyack. Junior Zachary Almonte (New Hempstead, N.Y./Saint Joseph Regional) has the Chargers' other tally on the season, scoring the game-winner on a header against Bridgeport.

New Haven has had a good amount of success off set pieces so far this season, scoring three goals in their first three games off corner kicks. Estanislao Desseno (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Saint Patrick College) has two assists on the season, both coming on corner kicks.

In the season-opening 3-2 win over Bridgeport, the Chargers received a strong defensive effort from its back line, making three defensive saves, including two from sophomore Francisco Guedes (Lisbon, Portugal/Maristas de Carcavelos). Senior Stefano Lorusso (Auckland, New Zealand/Sacred Heart College) made four saves in goal for New Haven.

SCOUTING THE PANTHERS (5-0-0, 1-0-0 NE10)
Adelphi earned its first-ever national No. 1 ranking last week, and remains in the top spot this week following a 3-2 win over Le Moyne in Saturday's NE10 opener. After starting the preseason No. 5 in DII, the Panthers ascended up to No. 2, and then No. 1 for the first time in program history last week. They took out Le Moyne 3-2 in Saturday's NE10 opener, and are the only NE10 team ranked in the top 25.

Averaging 3.6 goals per game, which ranks second in the NE10, AU is led by Paolo Marciano who boasts five goals and two assists this season, tying him for the NE10 lead in goals and tying him for second with 12 points. Stephen Megaloudis adds a NE-10 leading four assists, Filippo Peri has three goals, and Taylor Kaczynski and John Aydogan have scored twice each.

Defensively, Adelphi is averaging 1.00 goals-against this season, fourth in the NE10, and held Le Moyne's league-leading offense to two goals in Saturday's game.

ON DECK
The Chargers will head north this Saturday for a 3 p.m. matchup at Saint Anselm.
