ROXBURY, Mass. – Grad student
Kathleen Amstad (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) and sophomore
Kristen Washington (New Haven, Conn./James Hillhouse) each earned All-New England honors, and senior
Mary Kate Barton (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Lower Moreland) broke a school record to lead the New Haven women's track and field team at the NEICAAA Championships.
Washington earns the third All-New England honor of her career, and the first on the indoor track, with her sixth place finish and NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 5.71 meters in the long jump.
Amstad earns her first All-New England laurel with her fifth place showing in the 200 meters, crossing the line as the top non-Division I finisher in 25.37 seconds. Amstad also competed in the 60m dash, where she finished seventh in the prelims in 7.79 seconds, which qualified her for the semifinals, where she finished 11th.
Barton eclipsed the school benchmark in the 3,000 meters, finishing in 10:28.15, surpassing her former personal-best by over 17 seconds and beating out the previous school record of 10:31.20, which was set by
Nicole Maliborska (Staten Island, N.Y./Staten Island Technical) in 2017.
The Chargers distance medley relay team of Barton,
Mackenzie Evans (Brooklyn, N.Y./Midwood),
Hannah Swain (Nashua, N.H./Nashua South) and
Alli Kenealy (Shelton, Conn./Shelton) turned in the team's fastest performance of the season in the event, finishing in 12:54.45.
New Haven's 4x400m team of
Maritza Blanchard (Lake Grove, N.Y./Centereach),
Adraine Long (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle),
Aries Burrell (West Hempstead, N.Y./Holy Trinity Diocesan) and
Janae VanBurch (Jersey City, N.J./Hudson Catholic) also turned in the fastest time of the year for the team, finishing in 4:02.00.
The Chargers will return to action in two weeks with a pair of meets: the David Hemery Valentine Invitational at Boston University on February 14-15, and the Giegengack Invitational at Yale on February 15.
