OPENING DRAW
Coming off a dominating 22-4 win over Holy Family in last Saturday's season-opener, the Chargers return to action with a home matchup against New York Tech at 1 p.m. on Saturday afternoon. Ranked No. 13 nationally for the second straight week in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches' Association (IWLCA) Top 25 Poll, New Haven is looking to start the season 2-0 for the sixth time in the last seven seasons.
SERIES HISTORY
Saturday's matchup will be the first all-time between the two programs. NYIT first fielded a women's lacrosse program in 2017.
NYIT will be the 40th different opponent New Haven has played in its history, and one of three new opponents the Chargers will face this season (Slippery Rock and Alabama Huntsville). The last time New Haven played more than one new opponent in a season was 2012, when they first squared off with Mercy and Belmont Abbey.
The Chargers are 18-21 when playing an opponent for the first time, but are 8-4 in such matches since 2017.
SCOUTING THE CHARGERS (1-0, 0-0 NE10)
Four Chargers collected hat tricks in last week's season opener to power No. 13 New Haven to a 22-4 victory over Holy Family at Kathy Zolad Stadium. The 22 goals tied for the most in a season opener and home opener in program history. Seniors
Julia Jette (Franklin, Mass./Franklin) and
Caroline Maher (Mansfield, Mass./Mansfield) led the way with four goals and three assists each, while senior
Kendra Nolan (Oak Ridge, N.J./Jefferson Township) and junior
Emily Holland (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) scored three goals apiece. Freshman
Cameryn Antler (Hebron, Conn./Mercy) scored two goals in her collegiate debut, while
Meredith Karsonovich (Hampton Falls, N.H./St. Thomas Aquinas),
Marina Skelly (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Connequot),
Mikayla Cotter (Wrentham, Mass./Bishop Feehan),
Annie Acquavita (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire),
Raven Linton (Lawrenceville, N.J./Notre Dame) and
Brynn Eilbacher (Cherry Hill, N.J./Camden Catholic) all scored one goal each.
The Chargers outshot the Tigers 41-10 and dominated draw controls 24-3. Seniors
Erica Rinsky (North Caldwell, N.J./West Essex) and
Gianna Guerra (Stony Point, N.Y./North Rockland) split time in goal, combining for six saves.
SCOUTING THE BEARS (2-1, 0-0 ECC)
Ranked No. 21 nationally in this week's IWLCA Top 25 Poll, NYIT is off to a 2-1 start to the season, scoring a combined 36 goals over two PSAC opponents, before falling 10-8 at home to No. 17 Bentley on Tuesday. In the midst of just their fourth season as a varsity program, the Bears have registered at least 13 wins in each of their first three seasons.
Sophomore attacker Jaclyn Grzelaczyk leads the Bears with 18 points so far off 10 goals and eight assists. Senior attacker Shannon Donovan has a team-high 12 goals and sophomore attacker Chloe Herzog has seven goals and three assists to also reach double-digit points.
Sophomore goalie Ashley Perrini holds a .575 save percentage through her three starts.
