MANSFIELD, Mass. – University of New Haven redshirt sophomore Ross Jones II (Edgewood, Md./Friends School) from the men's basketball team was honored at the conclusion of the 2020 Northeast-10 Championship with the NE10 Elite 24 Award.

The Elite 24 Award is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site at each NE10 Championship. These student-athletes who received Elite 24 recognition represent the true essence of NE10 student-athletes earning it every day on the fields or court and in the classroom. The Elite 24 Award was instituted prior to the 2018-19 championship season. 

Off the court, Jones, who was a key role player off the bench for the Chargers, holds a combined GPA of 3.41 as business management major. Overall for the season, the guard out of Edgewood, Md. appeared in 23 games, averaging 11.7 minutes per game while contributing 3.0 points per game. For the year, Jones converted 22 field goals, including 17 from beyond the three point arc, while also pulling down 22 rebounds, dishing out 12 assists and picking off four steals.

Among the highlights of the season for Jones were a pair of nine point performances which came in the first two games of the season against Concordia and Le Moyne. Against the Dolphins, he tied his career-high with three buckets from beyond the three point arc.

Jones and the Chargers made an impressive run as the Southwest fifth seed in the NE10 Championship, earning three road victories over Bentley, Le Moyne and Stonehill to advance to the title game. In those three games, the Chargers played five total overtime periods, while adding one more in the title game before coming up on the short end of a 65-63 decision at Northeast Division No. 1 seed Saint Anselm.
