THE LEAD
The University of New Haven men's soccer team won't travel far as they head to New Haven for a matchup with the Southern Connecticut Owls at Jess Dow Field on Wednesday, Oct. 4 at 7:00 PM.

INSIDE THE SERIES
The Chargers look to make up some ground in the series between the two rivals. New Haven trails 12-39-3 with an away record of 3-23-2. The last time the Chargers played the Owls was Oct. 9, 2019, and was a 2-0 victory for New Haven, their first win in the series since 1985. Click Here for a complete series history.

SCOUTING THE CHARGERS (5-2-1, 2-2-1 NE10)
Last time the Chargers took the pitch, the squad ended the tightly contested matchup with the Stonehill Skyhawks with a scoreless tie in double overtime.

The Chargers put up a season-high 27 shots (6 on goal), led by Pau Santanach (Barcelona, Spain/Collegi CreaNova) (8), whose point streak officially came to an end at seven games.

Despite not scoring, Santanach still remains tied for first in the NE10 in goals scored (8).

Tano Desseno (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Saint Patrick College) also is tied for first in the conference but in assists (6). Alexander Gunnarsson (Kopavogur, Iceland/Verzlenarskoli Islands) is tied for second with (5).

Freshman goalkeeper Themis Kastoris (Gothenburg, Sweden/Kitas Gymnasiet) tallied six saves in the draw. His season total is now 30, which ranks fifth in the conference.

The Chargers are currently fourth in the NE10 standings with seven points in conference play, but with a slight edge in non-conference record over So. New Hampshire. New Haven enters the matchup with the second most goals scored as a team (23) in the NE10.

SCOUTING THE OWLS (1-6-1, 1-3 NE10)
The Owls' season is not off to a great start as they enter with a 1-6-1 record. After being ranked 7th in the NE10 Preseason Coaches's Poll, the Owls' offense remained stagnant with only six goals on the year, last in the conference. The Owls' lone win has come at their own field, with a 1-2-1 record when hosting.

Southern Connecticut is coming off a 2-1 loss against Adelphi last Tuesday, over a week before their matchup with the Chargers. The Owls look for something to ignite a spark on offense as they've been outscore 6-17 so far this season.

Southern Connecticut entered the season with a very young roster with 16 freshman, three sophomores, four juniors, four seniors, and one graduate student..

Tom Lang entered his 24th season as the head coach of the Southern Connecticut men's soccer program, his 35th season overall. Lang holds a record of 295-106-52 record as the leader of the Owls.

NEXT UP
The New Haven men's soccer team will head to Vermont to take on the Saint Michael's Purple Knights. Kickoff for that game is scheduled for 12:00 PM on Oct. 16 at Duffy Field.
