THE LEAD
The New Haven women's volleyball team returns to action Saturday, making the trip to Syracuse, N.Y. to take on Le Moyne. First serve from Ted Grant Court is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.

SCOUTING THE CHARGERS (12-5, 2-0 NE10)
New Haven comes into the match red-hot, winners of their last seven games and will look to keep the momentum as they return to Northeast-10 Conference play for the duration of the 2021 campaign. A trio of players have dominated in the Charger attack, led by junior outside Emily Barry (Freeport, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) who became the first player in the NE10 to eclipse 200 kills for the season, hitting that number on the mark with 10 hammers against Caldwell on Tuesday. Senior right-side Jessica Akiona and freshman Macy Brown (Cadillac, Mich./Cadillac) sit second and third, respectively on the team, just outside of the double-century mark with 194 and 193 kills.Freshman setter Sophia Leon-Tabor (Fort Myers, Fla./Fort Myers) has hit the ground running her rookie season, as she has already tossed out 625 assists in 15 matches thus far, currently the 10th highest mark in all of Division II. Defensively, sophomore libero Rilee Jessee (Edinburgh, Ind,/Columbus East) has corralled 250 of opponent attack attempts, followed by Brown's 189 digs, and Barry's 185. Senior middle Asiya Way continues to lead the efforts at the tape, with 60 blocks in 2021, ahead of Akiona with 32 and sophomore middle Emily Smith (Chesterfield, Mich./Anchor Bay) with 29.

SCOUTING THE DOLPHINS (2-9, 0-3 NE10)
Le Moyne enters Saturday looking to snap a three-game losing streak and earn its first win of the year in conference play. Madeleine Kennedy leads the attack as the only Dolphin with triple-digit kills with 131, more than double the next-highest player. Emily Yancone has handed out 245 assists on the season, while also sitting tied for second on the team with 11 service aces. Isabella Leslie leads that category with 12 aces, while also pacing the defensive efforts with 137 digs, and Lexi Petraitis tops the total blocks for the Dolphins with 27.

BROWN NABS ROOKIE OF THE WEEK HONORS IN COLLEGIATE DEBUT
With 50 kills last weekend, including 26 in her collegiate debut freshman outside Macy Brown (Cadillac, Mich./Cadillac) (Cadillac, Mich./Cadillac) (Cadillac, Mich./Cadillac) was named Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Week honors in Week one of the 2021 volleyball season. The 26 kills from Brown are the most by a player at New Haven since Sept. 24, 2011, when Keidy Candelaria matched that number against Franklin Pierce

BARRY, AKIONA NAMED TO ALL-TOURNEY TEAM IN OPENING WEEKEND
Barry and Akiona were both named to the first-team all-tournament roster at the Tony Banner Memorial Tournament last weekend. Barry totaled 53 kills, 53 digs, 6 assists, and three solo blocks across the four matches, while Akiona tallied 50 kills, 12 digs, and five block assists.

AKIONA, LEON-TABOR EARN ALL-TOURNAMENT NODS AT WESLEYAN
Following the conclusion of the tournament, both Akiona and Leon-Tabor earned spots on all-tournament teams. Akiona finished the weekend with 45 kills, along with 19 digs and nine total blocks, earning a first-team all-tournament nod, while Leon-Tabor's 98 assists and 26 digs nabbed her a spot as a second-
team all-tournament honoree.

BUILDING FOR THE FUTURE
If you haven't visited North Campus recently you haven't seen the construction taking place adjacent to Charger Gymnasium. The site is the future home of the Peterson Performance Center, a state-of-the-art facility that will house strength and condition, sports medicine, a new football locker room and meetings space with the ability to be tailored for the many different needs of all 18 varsity Charger athletic teams. The entire facility will measure 7,000 square feet and house 20 Olympic style weightlifting racks and a 60-yard turf agility and conditioning area. To learn more visit ChargerAthleticsFund.com.
