WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Led by sophomore Katie Durkee (Salem, Conn./East Lyme), five New Haven field hockey student-athletes were tabbed National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II Scholars of Distinction as announced by the organization on Wednesday.
The NFHCA Scholars of Distinction program recognizes student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.9 or higher through the first semester of the 2020-21 academic year. This honor follows the NFHCA National Academic Squad which was announced last week, while the NFHCA will announce their annual Team Academic Awards on March 29.
Durkee earns the distinction for the second-straight season as she was the first ever Charger to earn the honor following the 2019 campaign. She is joined this year by rookies Sydney Koasinski, Audrey Larson (Gilroy, Calif./Gilroy), Lauren Schaller (Danielsville, Pa./Northampton Area) and Madelyn Spotts. Overall, New Haven was one of 10 Northeast-10 teams to place at least one student-athlete on the Scholars of Distinction rolls.
