Softball Among Teams Under Consideration for NCAA Regionals in Initial Release

FULL WEEK 1 REGIONAL RANKINGS

WEST HAVEN, Conn. –
In its initial release of teams under consideration for a bid to the NCAA postseason championship, the New Haven softball team was included among the group of eight schools to be considered for the East Region Championship.

Previously, the regional rankings would be released with schools ranked 1-8, however beginning in 2021, the NCAA has chosen to release a list of schools who are under consideration for one of the six spots in the regional championship. Earlier this month, the NCAA released the sites for regional play, with Northeast-10 foe Saint Anselm chosen to host the East Regionals at its South Athletic Fields.

In this initial release of schools, New Haven is tied with Adelphi and Molloy in the win column with 16 victories, while leading those two schools in the loss column with just four losses, compared to six for Adelphi and 10 for Molloy.

The Chargers are in the midst of a 10-game win streak heading into a Thursday afternoon doubleheader with American International College. Junior Ava Fitzmaurice (Greenville, N.Y./Greenville) has been a powerhouse for the Blue and Gold, leading the Chargers in the circle with an 11-1 record and at the plate where she is hitting .339with 21 hits, including four home runs.
