Eleven Home Games Highlight 18-Game Field Hockey Schedule

WEST HAVEN, Conn. –The New Haven Field Hockey team will kick off its fourth season in the history of the program with seven of its first nine games at home, part of an 18-game schedule that makes up the 2021 campaign under head coach Kelsi Lykens leadership. A total of 11 of the Chargers 18 games will come on its home turf at Ralph F. DellaCamera Stadium.

When New Haven returns to the field at DellaCamera Stadium to host its season-opener on Sep. 2 against Adelphi, the Chargers will end a 670 day hiatus, last competing on November 1, 2019. It will also mark the first time the Chargers will play on the newly installed turf at DellaCamera Stadium. Ā 

Following the season opener against Adelphi, which comes as one of two Northeast-10 opponents the Chargers will meet in a non-conference game, the Blue and Gold will host Saint Anselm to continue a three-game home stand on Sep. 5. The early streak of home games concludes with the NE10 opener against Saint Michael's on Sep. 11.

The first road contest of the season will be a second-straight conference match as the Chargers travel to Pace on Sep. 14. Stepping out of conference play for a single game, New Haven returns to the Blue and Gold turf to host West Chester (Sep. 15), the reigning national champion who defeatedĀ Saint Anselm in the title game in 2019.

A return to conference play comes on Sep. 19 when the Chargers travel to the Granite State for the first of two trips to New Hampshire as they meet the Franklin Pierce Ravens. The final three games in the month of September will come at home for New Haven as they host three-straight on the home turf for a second time.

Opening up the home stand is a conference match-up with American International (Sep. 22) before hosting the final non-conference game of the season when Bloomsburg travels to West Haven (Sep. 26). The Huskies enter the 2021 season as the all-time leading Division II program in national titles with 13, the most recent a four-year stretch of championships from 2006-09.

The final game of the opening month returns the Blue and Gold to conference play with associate member Molloy visiting Connecticut on Sep. 28. Two road contests will open up the month of October with the first a visit to Assumption on Oct. 2 and the second the annual Elm City battle against rival Southern Connecticut State on Oct. 6.

Week two in October will all take place at home as the Chargers welcome Southern New Hampshire (Oc. 9) and another associate member, Saint Thomas Aquinas on Oct. 12. A second meeting of the year against Adelphi (Oct. 16) starts out back-to-back road trips with the second of those contests pitting the Chargers against Stonehill on Oct. 20.

The final two home games of the season come on Oct. 23 against Bentley, who the Chargers played in their final game before the CoVID-19 pandemic cancelled the 2020 campaign. The home finale will come against the final associate member of the NE10, Mercy on Oct. 26. The regular season finale comes on the road in the form of a rematch against Saint Anselm on Oct. 29.

Following the regular season, the top eight teams in the conference standings following regular season qualifying for the NE10 Championship, which opens with a quarterfinal match-up on Nov. 2 at the home sites of the four highest seeds. The semifinal and championship matches will also take place at home sites on Nov. 5 and Nov. 7, respectively.

The NCAA Division II Championship will begin with First Round games scheduled to take place November 13 at two campus sites determined by the selection committee. The season will culminate with the NCAA Semifinals and Championship being contested Nov. 19-21 at a site to be determined.

An announcement regarding the updated fan policy at Kathy Zolad Stadium will be posted later this summer. All home matches and select road matches will be broadcast live, for free, on the Charger Sports Network, part of NE10Now.tv.
