COMPLETE NORTHEAST-10 PRESEASON PREVIEW
FULL 2021 NEW HAVEN SCHEDULE
MANSFIELD, Mass. – With the 2021 season set to begin on September 2, the New Haven women's soccer team has been picked to finish 12th in a poll of the league's 14 head coaches. The Chargers will kick off the 28th season in program history just prior to the Labor Day holiday when they host a four-team tournament at Kathy Zolad Stadium. The season opener is scheduled for Thursday, September 2 as the Chargers will host Post at 5:00 p.m.
The Chargers received 32 points in the preseason poll, finishing ahead of Le Moyne and Saint Michael's who round out the 14-team field. The Saint Rose Golden Knights earned the top spot as the favorite to win the Northeast-10 Championship, earning 166 points and 10 of the 14 possible first place votes. The remaining four first place tallies all went to different teams with Adelphi, Bentley, Franklin Pierce and American International all securing one.
Following Saint Rose was Stonehill (138 points) and Southern New Hampshire (136 points) to round out the top three, while Adelphi and Bentley finished in fourth and fifth with 135 and 105 points, respectively.
Leading the Chargers into the 2021 campaign will be graduate goalkeeper Paige Davis (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Coughlin) who returns to the lineup for her fifth season after having her senior campaign canceled due to the CoVID-19 pandemic. Davis closed out the 2019 season with 128 saves. The Blue and Gold will look to replace six of their top seven goal scorers from 2019, all lost to graduation. The top returning scorer from 2019 is senior midfielder Mackenzie Myers (Williamstown, N.J./Williamstown) who finished with five goals and a trio of assists for 13 points.
Following the season opener against Post, the Chargers will close out the two-day tournament on Sunday afternoon when the host Georgian Court at 4:00 p.m. Among the Chargers 17-game slate is 2021 are a total of 10 games on the home turf of Kathy Zolad Stadium.
