WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The University of New Haven, Bowie State University and the NAACP Connecticut Chapter are excited to announce the 2021 Harmony Classic. A week of activities will conclude with a gridiron clash between the Chargers and Bulldogs on Saturday, September 18 at 1:00 PM. The Harmony Classic is an event that brings together the University of New Haven's initiatives for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and the NAACP's mission to secure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights in order to eliminate race-based discrimination and ensure the health and well-being of all persons.
"With the tension and turmoil in America around race, the NAACP is really glad that we can partner with UNH and Bowie State University to host the Harmony Classic this year," said Scot X. Esdaile, President of the Connecticut NAACP. "This will be a very exciting series of events bringing individuals together with diverse backgrounds."
"The University of New Haven is excited to host the Harmony Classic for a second time," commented Sheahon Zenger, Director of Athletics & Recreation at the University of New Haven. "The Harmony Classic presents an opportunity for open dialogue in our greater community. We look forward to a week of engaged conversation on eliminating race-based discrimination and creating a more diverse and racially equitable community."
The 2021 Harmony Classic is the second to be hosted on the UNH campus, and the sixth for the Connecticut Chapter of the NAACP. The Harmony Classic strives to Celebrate Diversity and Racial Harmony with a week of events.
