THE LEAD
The New Haven men's soccer team picked up their first win of the season in a 3-2 victory over the Le Moyne Dolphins on Saturday afternoon. Adam Lindstrom (Orbero, Sweden/Grillska Gymnasiet) netted two goals in the win, his second multi-goal effort in as many games, but it was the freshman Lucas Kaehr (Armonk, N.Y./Indiana University High School) who scored the game-winner with five seconds left. The Chargers will head to Garden City to face off with the #17 Adelphi Panthers for their final regular season road game of the year. The action is set to start at 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, Oct. 11 at Motamed Field.

SERIES HISTORY VS ADELPHI
This will only be the ninth meeting between the these NE10 programs. The Chargers trail in the all-time series, 1-7, with their only win coming on Sept. 19, 2018. The high-scoring 6-3 victory put an end to Adelphi's streak of five straight wins to start the series, however the Chargers enter the matchup on a two game losing skid. The series dates back to Oct. 16, 2013 when New Haven fell to the Panthers 3-0 in the inaugural game. New Haven will look to defeat the Panthers on their home field for the first time in team history as they hold a 0-4 record on the road.

SCOUTING THE CHARGERS (1-7-4)
For the first time this season, the Chargers enter the game on a one-game win streak after defeating the Le Moyne Dolphins, 3-2, on Saturday afternoon. Lindstrom, who scored twice in Wednesday's loss to Southern Connecticut, powered the Chargers to victory with another two goals and an assist. The win was New Haven's first since Nov. 3, 2021 when the team shutout the Bentley Falcons, 4-0. The victory was also only the second win ever for New Haven when playing the Dolphins on the road, and first since 1993, entering with a prior record of 1-7.

Following 42 minutes of tightly contested play, the Chargers struck first as Alexander Gunnarsson (Kopavogur, Iceland/Verzlenarskoli Islands), after receiving the crossing pass from Guillem Barnils (Barcelona, Spain/Escola Pia Nostrasenyora), found Lindstrom in the middle of the box for the goal. The goal came on one of two shot attempts for New Haven in the first half, both of which were on target, while the Dolphins outshot them with four. Gunnarsson and Barnils were both credited with an assist, the former of the two now with three on the season.

Trailing by two with less than two minutes to play, the Chargers drew a penalty kick to set up Lindstrom for his second goal of the contest. As time dwindled down, the Chargers attacked the Le Moyne goal once winning possession back from the Dolphins. After Sean Lane-Turnbull (Wellington, New Zealand/Rongotai College) sent the ball into the box, Lindstrom tried for a shot on goal from the right side but his shot was saved by Le Moyne goalkeeper Josh Mahr. Kaehr was the hero of the afternoon as he got to the rebound first and hit the ball into the left side of the net to put New Haven up 3-2 with five seconds left in the game.

Sophomore goalkeeper Themis Kastoris (Gothenburg, Sweden/Kitas Gymnasiet) returned to the net on Saturday, allowing two goals while recording three saves. Kastrois now has 37 saves on the season, which are tied for fifth in the conference while his .725 save percentage ranks 10th.

Lindstrom was awarded the honor of NE10 Player of the Week after he had a hand in five of the Chargers six goals last week, finishing with four goals and an assist for nine points. He opened up the week with a pair of goals against crosstown rival Southern Connecticut and then had a piece of all three goals in the Chargers first win of the season.

Up to now, the Chargers have been outshot by opponents, 138-148, while also trailing in shots on goal, 54-79. Out of all 19 Chargers who have attempted one or more shots, Lindstrom holds the lead for shots taken with 22 while Gunnarsson and Barnils follow behind with 19 & 16 shots, respectively.

New Haven, who was voted seventh in the 2022 NE10 preseason coaches' poll with 59 points, is currently ranked 10th in the conference standings.

SCOUTING THE PANTHERS (6-1-4)
The Panthers entered the season looking to build upon a 9-7-1 record from the 2021 season, a goal they succeeded in as the team currently holds a 6-1-4 record (3-1-2 in conference). Adelphi, ranked #17, only has one loss on the season, coming against the Southern New Hampshire Penmen on Sept. 10. Adelphi is now on a one game winning streak after defeating the Saint Anselm Hawks, 2-1, on Saturday.

The Panthers' offense has combined for a total of 64 points, stemming from 23 goals and 18 assists. All three categories rank second in the conference while their 154 total shots attempted places fifth.

Junior forward Rodrigo Descalzo Rocca, who scored in the team's 2-1 win over Saint Anselm, leads the team with nine goals on the season. After starting the year with five goals in the team's first four games, Descalzo Rocca's nine goals and 20 points each rank second in the NE10.

Fellow junior forward Victor Castel trails close behind with 16 points, coming from six goals and four assists, the latter of which is tied for a team high. Castel ranks fifth in the conference in assists while his points are tied for second. Like Descalzo Rocca, Castel started the season off hot, scoring five goals in the Panther's first three games. Castel was named NE10 Player of the Week for the opening week after tallying a point in each scoring play in a season-opening 4-0 win over Wilmington. He scored two goals and assisted on the other two. Two days later, he came off the bench in the second half to provide the deciding goal in the 64th minute against Post University.

Descalzo Rocca was also named NE10 Player of the Week but in week five after two of the junior's three goals also accounted for both game-winners on the week, including one 5:26 into the match in a 1-0 upset on the road of No. 16 ranked Southern Connecticut. Descalzo Rocca added a first-half brace and the deciding goal in a 6-1 victory against Saint Michael's on Sept. 24.

Patrick Wilson, coming off the bench, has a pair of goals on the year while Matteo Lazzarini, Filippo Peri, Christopher Armas, Paul Todaro and Michalis Clark all have a single goal, the latter of the bunch only playing in two games. Lazzarini has also tallied four assists, tying Castel for the team lead.

The Adelphi defense has been a huge part of their success, allowing only 11 goals through 11 games, then third least amount of goals in the NE10.

Senior goalkeeper Daniel De La Heras has started nine games in goal, allowing nine goals while making 31 saves. De La Heras' 31 saves rank seventh among all NE10 goalkeepers while his .775 save percentage places him fourth.

Le Moyne boasts a large diverse roster, comprised of 37 players.
The roster is broken down into 10 freshman, five sophomores, nine junior, 10 seniors, and three graduate students. The Panthers carry three goalkeepers, 12 defensemen, 11 midfielders and 11 forwards on their roster.

Gary Book was announced as the ninth head coach of the Adelphi men's soccer program on May 21, 2018. Book's four years have seen the Panthers pick up from where former coach Carlo Acquista left off. In Book's inaugural season (2018), Adelphi went 17-4-2 and captured an NE10 Tournament Championship, just the program's second since joining the league back in 2009. The Panthers would earn the No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament and dispatched LIU Post, 2-0, in the East Region final, before falling to eventual national runner-up West Chester by a 2-0 final in the national quarterfinals.

Then, in 2019, Book's squad opened the season on an unprecedented 15-game unbeaten streak (14-0-1), en route to receiving the No. 1 national ranking in the United Soccer Coaches Division II Poll for the first time in program history. That ultimately led to Book getting his first-ever nod as the NE10 Coach of the Year. Despite bowing out in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, Adelphi finished the season at 15-3-1 overall and came away with its fourth-consecutive NE10 regular-season title.

Adelphi, who was voted fourth in the 2022 NE10 preseason coaches' poll with 93 points, is currently ranked third in the NE10 standings with a conference record of 3-1-2.
