OPENING TIP
The University of New Haven women's basketball team picked up their first conference win of the season, a 68-53 win over the Saint Michael's Purple Knights, to break a five game skid. The Chargers will once again hit the road as they travel to Pleasantville, N.Y. to take on the Pace Setters at Goldstein Fitness Center on Feb. 2 at 5:30 P.M.
INSIDE THE SERIES
History has favored the Setters when these two programs collide. New Haven trails in the series 10-27 while holding a record of 2-17 when on the road. The Chargers enter the matchup on a one-game losing streak after falling to Pace earlier in the season, 51-72, on Nov. 23, 2021. This series dates all the way back to Nov. 30, 1985 when New Haven won the first matchup, 75-72.
SCOUTING THE CHARGERS
The Chargers enter this mid-week matchup against Pace, fresh off the heels of their first conference win, a 68-53 win over the Saint Michael's Purple Knights. The win also broke a five-game skid for New Haven as they are now 6-10 on the season.
The Chargers came out of the gate swinging, ending the first quarter with a 24-10 lead while managing to never let it go. Last week's victory featured a number of career-highs on both ends of the floor as well as a number of team highs.
Kameryn King (Old Saybrook, Conn./Mercy) led the Chargers on offense with 16 points, four rebounds, three assists while shooting 7-10.
Marigona Bacaliu (Worcester, Mass./Putnam Science Academy) followed close behind with 15 points and three rebounds while draining three three-pointers. Both players set a career-high in points while the latter set a personal best in made three-pointers, as well.
Aurora Deshaies (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden) continues to feast in the paint, coming just shy of another double-double with a 12 point-9 rebound effort. Despite tying on the boards, the Chargers outscored the Purple Knights, 40-14. Deshaies is averaging 11.5 points on a conference-best 53.8% shooting while pulling in 10.5 rebounds, third in NE10.

While at the line, the Chargers converted four of six shots (66.7%) while the Purple Knights shot two of three (66.7%).
While she might've finished with her third-straight game without double-digit points,
Camryn DeBose (Wellington, Fla./Wellington Community) was a force on defense, racking up a new career-high eight steals. DeBose is still ninth in the conference in scoring, however, as she averages 14.9 on the year.
Briana Van Cleaf (Staten Island, N.Y./Notre Dame Academy) was the fourth and final Charger to reach double-digit points as she ended the game with 11 points and five rebounds on 5-11 shooting. Gabrielle Stickle (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) made her second career start, recording five points, three rebounds and three assists while draining a three-pointer.
For only the second time this season, the Chargers ended the game tied on the boards, 34-34. The other time was the team's season opener against Bloomfield on Nov. 13, 2021 (41-41). New Haven forced 21 turnovers in the loss, turning those into 22 points on the other end.
