OPENING TIP
The University of New Haven women's basketball team dropped their 14th game of the season, an 61-80Â loss to the Bentley Falcons, on Valentine's Day. The Chargers will now return home for their final regular season game at Charger Gymnasium as they host the Southern Connecticut Owls for the Elm City showdown.
INSIDE THE SERIES
History has favored the Chargers when these two programs face off as New Haven narrowly holds a 13-12 record over the Owls.When hosting Southern Connecticut , the Chargers are 8-5 as opposed to 5-7 on the road. The Owls hold a one-game win streak in the series after defeating the Chargers, 83-64, earlier in the season. The first time they met was on Nov. 25 2007 and resulted in a 77-66 win for New Haven.

SCOUTING THE CHARGERS
The Chargers enter this weekday matchup against SCSU looking to win their final regular season game after splitting a road series, falling 61-80 to the Bentley Falcons on Monday. The loss dropped the Chargers to 8-14 on the season, as well as 3-13 in conference play.
On offense, the Chargers were led by
Camryn DeBose (Wellington, Fla./Wellington Community), who finished with 12 points after shooting 5-13 (38.5%) from the field. The senior guard broke out of a slump, scoring double-digit points for the first time in three games as she has now scored ten points or more in 17 of the 22 games she has played this season. DeBose also recorded a steal in the loss, extending her streak to 16 games while only been held to zero steals once this season.
Kameryn King (Old Saybrook, Conn./Mercy)Â racked up 11 points, shooting 4-7 (57.1%) on the night with three makes coming from beyond the arc. The junior guard also tallied five rebounds, all on defense, and two assists in the effort while recording a steal, herself.
Also reaching double-digit points was
Aurora Deshaies (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden), who finished with a 10 point-seven rebound performance. Althought she came short tonight, the junior forward has grabbed down or more rebounds in 13 of the 21 games she's played in as she averages a double-double on the season with 10.8 points and 10.3 rebounds per game.
Briana Van Cleaf (Staten Island, N.Y./Notre Dame Academy)Â also crashed the boards, tallying six rebounds while adding six points to her night. Graduate guard
Brie Pergola (Torrington, Conn./Torrington) shot 3-4 (75.0%) from the field while making her only attempted free throw to finish the game with seven points.
Among those providing scoring from the bench was freshman guard
Charlotte Bassett (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury), who made two baskets, including a three-pointer, to put up five points.
Bionca Chambers (Bronx, N.Y./New Milford)Â did a little of everything for the Chargers, totaling seven points, three rebounds, and three assists while also recording a block, as well. Rounding out New Haven scorers was
Alyssa Stevenson (Watertown, N.Y./South Jefferson Central), who scored her only points in the paint on an assist from DeBose early in the second quarter.
New Haven forced the Falcons into 15 turnovers with only four Chargers recording a steal, including Pergola while Deshaies led with two blocks.
The Chargers turned those turnovers into 18 points on the other end while Bentley scored 30 points off of turnovers. The Chargers were outrebounded by the Falcons, 32-29 while narrowly being outscored, 30-28, as the team now ranks sixth as a team in total rebounds (37.9) while ranking fourth in offensive boards (12.7) and 11th in defensive rebounds (25.5).
New Haven ranks 11th in the conference with 57.7 points per game but they are also sixth in the NE10 with 62.1 points allowed per game. The Chargers shoot 37.3 percent on the year while allowing opponents to shoot 38.2 percent.Â
SCOUTING THE OWLS
The Owls enter the matchup 10-11 on the season and 7-8 during conference play, as they are on a one-game win streak after picking up a 67-53 win over Saint Michaels in an overtime thriller on Monday. SCSU has now won three of their last four games including a commanding 105-69 victory over the Saint Anselm Hawks.
On offense, Southern Connecticut is led by graduate forward Jessica Fressle, who averages 17.0 points and 10.9 rebounds per game. Fressle is also 117-273 from the field, this season, for a NE10 13th-best 42.9 percent shooting. Fressle is second in rebounds per game (10.9) and fifth in the conference in points per game (17.0) while also ranking third in free throws made (98-125).
In the Owl's last game, Fressle racked up a 13 point-12 rebound double-double while dominating on defense with four blocks and two steals. Leading the starters in points was Zoë Amalbert, who scored 16 points on 6-15 (40.0%) shooting. Alexa Kellner, who is sixth in the conference in three-point shooting percentage (39.7), led the team with 17 points.
Amalbert and Delaney Connors average 13.4 and 11.8 points per game, respectively, while the former has tallied 133 assists on the season, the most in the NE10.
Patricia Conroy and Amalbert have become a formidable duo from deep, combining for 80-216 (37.0%) from beyond the arc. Amalbert was also named NE10 Player of the Week in week 8, shooting 58.3 percent from the field and 58.3 percent from three-point range en route to 43 total points. She averaged 21.5 ppg, 9.0 apg, 4.0 rpg, and 1.5 spg. Against Adelphi, she shot 50.0 percent from the field with 19 points and 11 assists. Against Bentley, she notched a career-high 24 points to go along with seven assists, five rebounds and two steals.Â
The Owls have seen nine players start at least one game this season with the most recent lineup being Fressle, Amalbert, Conroy, Connors and Katie Williamson.
On defense, SCSU averages 6.8 steals and 2.3 blocks per game. The Owls have five players with 10+ steals on the year, with Fressle leading the team with 37. Williamson is also the Owl's lead shot blocker, with 20 on the season while Fressle is the next closest with 10.
Southern Connecticut ranks fourth in the conference with an average of 67.0Â points per game, while shooting a third best 32.8Â percent from the field. The Owls allow an average of 64.1 points per game to their opponent on 38.2Â percent shooting. As a whole, they rank fifth in the conference, averaging 38.2Â rebounds for a -1.4Â margin.
SCSU boast a diverse roster comprised of 10 guards and four forwards. The class makeup is divided into three freshmen, two sophomores, three juniors, two seniors and four graduate students.
Kate Lynch entered her seventh season as head women's basketball coach at Southern Connecticut State University. Lynch, an '08 graduate, was a 2018 inductee into the Southern Connecticut State University Alumni Hall of Fame.The all-time leading scorer in the history of the Southern Connecticut State women's basketball program, Lynch was announced as head coach on June 29, 2015. Lynch enters the match with a 79-73 overall record and 45-55 conference record at the helm of SCSU.
