OPENING TIP
The University of New Haven women's basketball team dropped another close game with the Adelphi Panthers, this time 49-52. The Chargers will now travel to New Hampshire for their final game of the regular season as they take on the Franklin Pierce Ravens.
INSIDE THE SERIES
History has favored the Ravens when these two programs face off as New Haven trails a 21-30Â record in the series. When traveling to Rindge, the Chargers are 5-18 as opposed to 16-12Â when hosting. The Chargers have won five of their last six games against Franklin Pierce with their latest win coming on Feb. 1, 2020 in a 64-59 victory. This rivalry dates all the way back to Jan. 13, 1982 and it resulted in a 74-59 win for the Chargers.
SCOUTING THE CHARGERS
The Chargers enter this weekend matchup against Adelphi looking for revenge for an earlier season game in which Adelphi beat the Chargers 58-59 on a last second jumper.
The win sends the Chargers to 9-14 on the year as their conference record rises to 4-13. In a game that had no shortage of action, New Haven worked their way up to a ten point lead in the first quarter after allowing a three-pointer to start the contest.
The offense ran through
Aurora Deshaies (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden), who dominated the paint with a 22 point-21 rebound double-double while shooting 9-18 (50.0%) from the field. Deshaies came two points shy of tying a personal best but set a new career-high in rebounds, breaking her previous high of 16 against Georgian Court on Nov. 14, 2021. Although it's her first time tallying over 20 rebounds in a game, the junior forward has now grabbed ten or more boards in 15 of the 23 games she's played in. She continues to average a double-double on the year with 11.6 points and 10.7 rebounds per game, both of which rank within the top 25 of NE10 scorers.
Also reaching double-digit points in the game was
Brie Pergola (Torrington, Conn./Torrington), who scored 11 points on 5-10 shooting while also pulling down five rebounds. Her lone three-pointer came off an assist from
Kameryn King (Old Saybrook, Conn./Mercy)Â with 6:39 left in the first quarter to give the Chargers an eight point lead. The graduate guard still places 11th in the conference with an average of 2.9 assists on the season.
Despite being held to 3-16 shooting,
Camryn DeBose (Wellington, Fla./Wellington Community)Â contributed on offense by racking up eight points, six rebounds and four assists. The senior guard also recorded two steals in the loss, extending her streak to 18Â games while only being held to zero steals once this season. DeBose still ranks 13th among NE10 scorers by averaging 13.5 points per game while she tops the leaderboards with 2.5 average steals.
Kameryn King (Old Saybrook, Conn./Mercy) also did a little bit of everything, having scored six points on 2-9 shooting to go along with three rebounds and four assists. King continues her strong effort beyond the arc, hitting at least one three-pointer in each of her last seven games.
Briana Van Cleaf (Staten Island, N.Y./Notre Dame Academy)Â rounded out the New Haven scorers with two points, coming early in the third quarter off a dish from Pergola. For the second straight game, scoring was solely limited to the starters as the bench was held scoreless.
The Panthers were held to 18-66 (27.3%) shooting from the field while shooting 4-24 (16.7%) from behind the perimeter. The Chargers ended the game shooting 20-65 (30.8%) while shooting 3-13 (23.1%) on three-point attempts. The Chargers outrebounded the Panthers, 47-46 while dominating the paint, 28-20. Both teams scored 16 points on second chance opportunities,
The Chargers now rank fifth as a team in total rebounds (38.3) while ranking fourth in offensive boards (12.8) and 10th in defensive rebounds (25.5). New Haven ranks 11th in the conference with 57.9 points per game but they are also 8th in the NE10 with 61.8 points allowed per game. The Chargers shoot 37.4 percent on the year while allowing opponents to shoot 37.6Â percent.
SCOUTING THE RAVENS
The Ravens enter the matchup 11-12 on the season and 7-10 during conference play, as they are on a one-game win streak after snapping a four game skid by picking up a 60-48 win over Bentley on Saturday.Â
On offense, Franklin Pierce is led by senior forward Emma Carter, who averages 18.3 points and 5.1 rebounds per game while the former ranks fourth in the NE10 amongst all scorers. Carter has gone 149-348 (42.8%) from the field while also leading the team from beyond the arc, shooting 42-113 (37.2%).
Fellow seniors Rylee Skinner and Lisa Sulejmani are averaging 12.6 and 12.1 points per game, respectively. The former ranks fourth in the conference in field goal percentage by shooting 82-169 (48.5%). Sulejamni is leading the Ravens with an average of 4.4 assists per game.

In the Raven's last game, the team was led by Sulejmani, who put up 12 points on 5-12 shooting. Carter was held to 3-11 shooting while tallying seven points, seven rebounds and six assists.
Franklin Pierce has only seen seven players start at least one game this season with the most recent lineup being Carter, Gimenez-Monserrat, Sulejmani, Gisela Vazquez-Segura, and Anna Badosa-Soler.
On defense, Franklin Pierce averages 6.3 steals and 2.9 blocks per game. The Ravens have seven players with 10+ steals on the year, with Vazquez-Segura leading the team with 45 with Sulejami close behind with 44. Badosa-Soler is the Raven's lead shot blocker, with 21 as she ranks 18th in the conference with 0.9 per game.
Franklin Pierce ranks third in the conference with an average of 67.9 points per game, while shooting a fifth best 39.5 percent from the field. The Ravens allow an average of 67.9 points per game to their opponent on 39.5 percent shooting. As a whole, they rank 7th in the conference, averaging 37.5 rebounds for a -4.3 margin.
The Ravens boasts a diverse roster comprised of seven guards and seven rebounds. The class makeup is divided into two freshmen, seven sophomores, one junior, three seniors and one graduate student.
Mark Swasey returns to Franklin Pierce University in 2019-20Â for the first season of his second stint as head coach of the University's women's basketball program. The 15th head coach in program history, it will be his eighth season at the helm of the Ravens overall, as he was also the program's 11th head coach, from 2002-03 through 2008-09. Swasey ranks second in program history with 124Â wins (124-85, .593 winning percentage), and earned Northeast-10 Conference and Russell Athletic/WBCA East Region Coach of the Year honors after leading the Ravens to a program-record 29 victories in 2008-09.
