Women's Basketball Drops Tough 69-51 Loss to Le Moyne on Senior Day

BOX SCORE WEST HAVEN, CONN. - The University of New Haven women's basketball team fell to Le Moyne by the score of 69-51 on Saturday afternoon during the Charger's Senior Day. While the game represented the 18th game of the season, it served as a celebration for the graduating class that wore the Blue and Gold. Being honored before the game was Bionca Chambers (Bronx, N.Y./New Milford), Kamryn Hammond (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./F.D. Roosevelt), Luzdali Ocasio (Davenport, Fla./New Hampton), and Brie Pergola (Torrington, Conn./Torrington). The loss puts the Chargers at 6-12 on the season and 1-11 in conference play. Senior guard Camryn DeBose (Wellington, Fla./Wellington Community) led New Haven with 11 points, four rebounds and an assist, while shooting 4-11 from the floor, including 3-8 from beyond the arc. Briana Van Cleaf (Staten Island, N.Y./Notre Dame Academy) shot 1-5 but finished with eight points after shooting a perfect 5-5 from the line. Van Cleaf also grabbed four rebounds in the effort as she now averages 6.1 on the year, 20th in the NE10. Ocasio and Gabrielle Stickle (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) both finished the game with six points, each hitting two three-pointers. Both of Stickle's shots came in the second quarter while both of Ocasio's came in the fourth. Pergola returned to the lineup for the first time since Dec. 19, recording five points, three assists and two rebounds. Junior guard Kameryn King (Old Saybrook, Conn./Mercy) also scored five points in the game while assisting on two shots and grabbing a rebound. Chambers and Bionca Pendleton made two baskets and grabbed a rebound, each while the former tallied two assists. Both Aurora Deshaies (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden) and Alyssa Stevenson (Watertown, N.Y./South Jefferson Central) were held to a field goal while combining for nine rebounds with the former pulling down five.

The Dolphins went 21-48 (43.8%) shooting from the field and 8-18 (44.4%) from behind the perimeter. The Chargers ended the game shooting 18-53 (34.0%) while going 9-23 (39.1%) on three-point attempts, including a 5-8 fourth quarter. Le Moyne shot 19-26 (73.1%) from the line as opposed to New Haven, who went 8-9 (88.9%). New Haven forced the Dolphins into only 14 turnovers with DeBose once again making noise on defense with a block and two steals while Van Cleaf, Ocasio and Pergola were all credited with a steal.

The Chargers turned those turnovers into 12 points on the other end while Le Moyne scored 18 points off of turnovers. The Chargers were outrebounded by the Dolphins, 39-27 while being outscored 16-22 in the paint. Le Moyne scored 13 points on second chance opportunities while New Haven scored three.

FIRST HALF
  • The first half was a low scoring affair for the Chargers as they trailed 33-17 at halftime.
  • Stickle lead New Haven in points during the half after draining a pair of three-pointers in the second.
  • Stevenson was held scoreless but grabbed three rebounds and assisted on both of Stickle's three-pointers.
  • Deshaies also pulled in three rebounds but went 1-3 from the field to end with two points.
  • Pergola finished the half with three points, all from the line.
  • DeBose was held to only two points in the first half while not scoring until the second quarter.
  • Van Cleaf also grabbed three boards in the half despite not scoring.
  • Chambers hit a jumper with four minutes left in the second off an assist from Ocasio to put two points on the board.
  • Van Cleaf and Ocasio both tallied a steal in the first half while nobody recorded a block.
  • Le Moyne was held to 8-25 (32.0%) from the field in the first half, while going 4-10 (40.0%) from three.
  • New Haven shot 6-27 (22.2%) while being held to 2-11 (18.2%) from the perimeter.
  • New Haven's lone two three-pointers came from Stickle in the second quarter.
  • The Chargers shot 3-4 (75.0%) from the line while the Dolphins went 13-16 (81.3%).
  • Le Moyne outrebounded the Chargers 23-17 in the half while both teams scored six in the paint.
  • The Dolphins scored 11 points off of turnovers as opposed to the Chargers who only scored two.
  • Le Moyne scored nine points on second chance opportunities while the Chargers scored three.
  • The Chargers forced seven turnovers while they were forced into eight, themselves.
SECOND HALF
  • The second half of play was more offensive as both teams scored 36 points, with the Chargers outscoring the Dolphins 21-18 in the fourth quarter.
  • DeBose once again exploded in the second half tallying nine points, four rebounds, and an assist.
  • DeBose went 3-6 from beyond the perimeter in the second half after being held to 0-2 in the first.
  • Deshaies was held scoreless in the half while adding two more rebounds to her total.
  • Van Cleaf also enjoyed a fruitful second half, scoring eight points including a perfect 5-5 from the line.
  • Ocasio drained a pair of three-pointers in the fourth quarter to put her on the board after going scoreless in the first half.
  • King sunk a three-pointer, herself, for her only points of the second half.
  • Pendleton scored four points on 2-3 shooting while grabbing a rebound.
  • Chambers made one of her two attempted shots while tallying a rebound and two assists.
  • The Dolphins shot 13-23 (56.5%) in the second half while shooting 4-8 (50.0%) from the perimeter.
  • The Chargers went 12-26 (46.2%) while going to 7-12 (58.3%) from three.
  • Le Moyne outrebounded the Chargers, 16-10 in the second half while outscoring the Chargers in the paint, 16-10.
  • New Haven outscored the Dolphins on turnovers, 10-7.

The University of New Haven women's basketball team looks to rebound in their second of a three-game homestand as they host the Saint Rose Golden Knights. Tip-off for that game is scheduled for 5:30 P.M. on Tuesday, Feb. 8 at Charger Gymnasium.
