5-1 Chargers Set for Back-to-Back Road Contests

Alyssa Pasniewski

Inside the SeriesĀ
Unlike other opponents for the Chargers, New Haven has a short history when it comes to playing the College of Saint Rose. In fact, their only two contests occurred just last season - one at home and one on the road. Both events resulted in wins for the Chargers record as the two victories were only ten days apart. First the Golden Knights came to Kathy Zolad Stadium where the Chargers protected their home turf 21-9. A little over a week later the Blue and Gold went to Albany where they spilled out a 17-5 win.Ā

Head Coach Sarah Martin
The women's lacrosse program at the College of Saint Rose is fairly new, originating in 2020. In that 2021 season, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Golden Knights were only limited to compete in five contests where head coach Kaitlin GaghanĀ finished her season as head coach going 2-3.Ā

In the next season, Sarah Martin reigned in as head coach. She formerly attended the University of Albany where she was a first-team All American. In her debut season as head coach she finished 1-11, their only victory was over AIC 12-7. When the Golden Knights came to West Haven the Chargers were ranked ninteenth. Ten days later they met again in Albany with the Chargers moving up three spots in terms of their rank to sixteenth.Ā

Scouting the Golden Knights (4-2, 0-2 NE10)
In the current 2022 season, Saint Rose already has four wins, which is more than their total wins last season. Their victories came over Dominican in their season opener, then Post, an 18-0 shutout over Nyack and a double-digit win to Saint Thomas Aquinas.Ā

On Tuesday, in Saint Rose's second Northeast-10 matchup, they suffered a 9-10 loss in overtime. Now they step onto the Plumeri Sports Complex to face the No. 18 New HavenĀ Chargers. Overall, the Golden Knights have out scored and out shotĀ their opponents 77-47, 185-122 respectively. Their most aggressive performance in terms of scoring and shooting eas the 17-3 victory over STAQ with a season-high of 17 goals accompanied by 40 shots.Ā

Both Daria Bock and Deanna Ciliento lead the Golden Knights in scoring with 13 goals a piece, both have started every game so far this season. Fourteen roster members have tallied at least one goal this season, especially after ten different players scored against Saint Thomas Aquinas.Ā

Scouting the ChargersĀ  (5-1, 1-1 NE10)
On the road New Haven is 2-0 with wins over Jefferson and Georgian Court that started their 2022 season. After playing three straight games at home, and falling to No. 3 Adelphi the Chargers are ready to spark up conference play again after just facing non-conference Molloy on Thursday. Cameryn Antler (Hebron, Conn./Mercy) assisted the Charger in their most recent victory scoring six goals for a game high. This number is also the highest amount of goals scored by a single Charger in a game this season. Reagan Bailey, who scored five on Thursday, also started her collegiate career off with six goals in the Chargers home opener.Ā
