FULL RESULTS
TOWNSEND, Mass. – The University of New Haven's newest men's sport, men's golf, made its return to the links for the first time since the 2008-09 season at the Franklin Pierce Fall Invitational at the Northern Spy Golf Club in Townsend, Mass.
Overall, the Chargers finished 16th in the field of 16 teams, finishing the two-round tournament with a combined score of 683, just 12 strokes out of 15th place. As a team, New Haven shaved 19 strokes off of its first-round total.
Leading the Blue and Gold in the inaugural event for 2022-23 was rookie Santiago Cervantes (Mexico City, Mexico/Colegio Vista Hermosa) who finished tied for 26th place overall. Cervantes posted a two-round total of 151, 11 strokes over par for the course. Cervantes also saw the largest improvement from round one to round two as shaved off 11 strokes from his first-round total, to finish even par 70 on Monday.
Following Cervantes in the Chargers five was freshman Aissa El-Khadri (/) who finished tied for 65th place among the field of 85 golfers. El-Khadri shaved three strokes off of his round one total to finished with an 81 in round two and a two-day total of 165.
Rounding out the Chargers on the course was Andrew Mahr (/) (78th place), Jacob Vougiatzis (Tenafly, N.J./Tenafly) (83rd) and Tyler Pickman (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire) (84th).
The New Haven men's golf team will return to the course for the three-round Penmen Fall Invitational which is scheduled to begin on Sunday, September 25 at the Beaver Meadow Golf Course in Concord, N.H.
