WEST HAVEN, Conn – Home sweet home for the University of New Haven Women's Volleyball team, after 13 games that stretched from Florida to Delaware and up to New York, the blue and gold get to finally tip off in Charger Gymnasium in front of their home crowd for the first time since November 16 of 2021 when the Chargers beat Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) 3-1 in the first round of the NE10 Conference Championships. Now the Chargers open up against the Penmen looking to replicate the result the last time they were home in 2021 to open up their new season at home for 2022.
Series History
Ahead of the 22 match between the two NE10 conference opponents, New Haven has dominated the series leading the all time series 20-1 along with riding a seven match win streak with the Chargers winning twice last year over the Penmen first in the regular season in New Hampshire before ending the Penmen's season in the first round of the conference playoffs at Charger Gymnasium. The Penmen have never won on the road against the Chargers as their lone win came at their home court back in 2014.
Scouting the Chargers
New Haven is coming off of a dominant 3-1 win over The College of Saint Rose on the road and sit at 7-6 on the year heading into the matchup with the Penmen. During the weekly conference awards, the Chargers were represented once again as Avery Moore (Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville Community High School) took home NE-10 rookie of the week and had 12 kills and 6 digs against Saint Rose. Moore with 118 kills is second on the team behind Macy Brown (Cadillac, Mich./Cadillac) with 178 kills leading the way. Sophia Leon-Tabor (Fort Myers, Fla./Fort Myers) now at 365 assists continues to lead. Moore along with Brown and Leon-Tabor highlight the top and with Emily Barry (Freeport, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) in the lineup it has created a dangerous attack for the Chargers that are all combining together.
Scouting the Penmen
Southern New Hampshire enters Charger Gymnasium with a 6-3 record but 0-1 in the conference following their 3-2 loss to Bentley University in an early week game. The Penmen opened up their season 4-0 and did not lose a set over that span. In their three losses the Penmen have gone to five sets twice and in their wins have gone to four sets max in a win. The attack for SNHU is split between Ana Pimenta who has 89 kills and Juliana Pacini, 84 kills at the top. The duo is set by Sara Montefameglio who has registered 246 assists on the season.
