MANSFIELD, Mass. – For the second-straight week, the New Haven football team has doubled up on the weekly conference awards with sophomore running back Christopher Ais (Stoughton, Mass./Stoughton) taking NE10 Offensive Player of the Week accolades and linebacker David Onyemem (Dracut, Mass./Central Catholic) earning NE10 Defensive Player of the Week distinction.

The awards represent the first this season for both Ais and Onyemem, while this is the second-straight week the Chargers have taken the Offensive Player of the Week award. This is also the second time Ais has earned an NE10 honor after picking up Rookie of the Week merit last season following week six.

In the week four win over Bentley, Ais led the New Haven offense with a career-high 131 yards on 26 carries. The sophomore running back opened up his day with a hurdle that led to a 42-yard gain on the opening drive against the Falcons, setting up his one and only touchdown of the day which came a couple plays later as he went up the middle for the 10-yd TD.

Onyemem also scored a TD for the Blue and Gold, with his a fourth-quarter scoop and score as he provided the final margin against the Falcons in the 21-13 win. After a strip-sack fumble caused by teammate Jack Quander (Gainsville, Va./Patriot), Onyemem lurched forward to grab the ball off the turf and eluded an attempt by the quarterback to take him down by the legs to sprint 34 yards for the first defensive touchdown of the season by New Haven.

Ais, Onyemem and the Chargers will return to work on Saturday when they travel for the second-straight week as they head to Manchester, N.H. for a date with the Saint Anselm Hawks. Kickoff from Grappone Stadium is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. with all of the action available live on NE10 NOW.
