SOUTHWICK, Mass. – The New Haven women's golf team led by four strokes after the first round and extended that to six strokes after the final 18 as they go wire-to-wire to win the first Northeast-10 Conference Championship in program history. Leading the way individually for the Chargers was graduate transfer Wynter Flores (San Antonio, Texas/Incarnate Word) who was tied for the individual lead after the first 18 holes and finished in a two-way tie for second place with Assumption's Jenny Walsh.
The 36-hole event was held on the par 72 course at The Ranch Golf Club in Southwick, Mass., where the Chargers posted a 312 in round one when play was split between Saturday and Sunday due to weather conditions. Finishing a total of 27 strokes on day two, the Chargers added just five strokes to their first round score to finish with a 317 in round two and a combined score of 629, six strokes ahead of the Franklin Pierce Ravens who finished with a 635. The two led the rest of the field by more than 30 strokes.
Overall, Flores finished +10 over the two-day event closing out the tournament with an 80 over the second 18 holes to finish with a combined score of 154. Her first round 74 was tied for the second lowest single round of the tournament as she finished with a pair of birdies in the opening round and three total for the tournament.
Following Flores was freshman Isabella Thomas (Oxford, Conn./Laurelton Hall) who finished two strokes behind Flores with a two-day 156, tied fourth place overall. Thomas shaved two strokes off of her opening round of 79 to finish +5 in the second round, posting the lowest score for the Blue and Gold in the final 18 holes.
Junior Erin Earl (London, England/Saffron Walden County Day) followed Thomas in the standings, shaving three strokes off her opening round score to finish +6 in the second round and post a 36-hole total of 159 taking eighth place. Freshman Sofia Cova (Rome, Italy/German School of Rome) completed the top-four for New Haven, finishing 10th overall among the field of 30 golfers with a 162.
Rounding out the field for New Haven was sophomore Danielle Jastrab (Camino, Calif./Eldorado) who finished one stroke behind Vova with a 163, tied for 11th overall.
