WHAT'S ON TAP
The women's basketball team looks to keep building on a successful season-opening weekend sweep at the Goldey-Beacom Invitational when they head to Waltham, Mass. to open up Northeast-10 Conference play taking on the Bentley Falcons. Last season, New Haven went into Waltham and won on a buzzer beater as part of a doubleheader sweep with the men's team at the Dana Center.
SCOUTING NEW HAVEN
Sophomore Lindsay Hogan (Bayville, N.Y./Locust Valley) easily filled the void left by the loss of of two of the top three scorers from a year ago as she averaged 26.0 points across the two-games in Delaware this past weekend, including a career-high 30 points in the season opener. Graduate student Aurora Deshaies (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden) also picked up where she left off last season, averaging a double double for the weekend with 15.5 points and 13.5 rebounds to her credit. The addition of transfers Makaela Johnson (Hamden, Conn./Hamden) (Saint Rose) and Nayeli Dowding (Baldwin, N.Y./Baldwin) (Hartford) also paid off for the Chargers with Johnson averaging 13.5 points and 9.5 rebounds, while Dowding added 8.0 points per game. In the backcourt, fifth-year head coach Debbie Buff turned to the experience on senior Gabrielle Stickle (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) to run the offense and she didn't disappoint as she dished out 13 assists in the first two games, including a career-high eight in the win over Goldey-Beacom. As a team, New Haven outscored its two opening opponents by an average of 44 points per game, scoring 80+ in both of the games this past weekend after hitting that scoring mark just once all of last season. All combined, the Chargers shot 51.7 percent (61-118) as a team, led by Hogan who finished the two games shooting 72 percent from the field (18-25).
SCOUTING BENTLEY
Picked to finish second in the NE10 according to a preseason poll of the head coaches, Bentley also enters with a pair of wins in its first two games over Daemen and Roberts Wesleyan at the Roberts Wesleyan Redhawks Classic. Through its first two games, Bentley is averaging 84 points per game and 25 points more than its two opponents. Overall, five different players are averaging in double figures including a pair of starters, Ella Thompson and Maggie Whitmore. Thompson leads all scorers with an average of 15.0 points per game, while dishing out a team-high eight assists. Whitmore follows her in the scoring column at 14.5 ppg. Kylie Ducharme is first off the bench for Bentley averaging 12.5 points per game while leading the teams rebounding efforts at 8.5 rebounds per game. She and Niya Morgan, who is just behind her at 12.0 ppg, are both shooting at a 75 percent clip (9-12). Rounding out the leading scorers is Brook Obar who in the one game she played, finished with 10 points. As a team, the Falcons are also outrebounding their opponents substantially with a 40.5 -- 21.5 margin.
SERIES HISTORY vs BENTLEY
· New Haven and Bentley meet for the 40th time in the history of the two programs, which has been dominated by the Falcons.
· Bentley holds a 33-6 record in the previous 39 games, including a stretch of 23 straight victories that spanned beyond the full 90's and 00's.
· In most recent memory, the Falcons have won two straight games before the Chargers scored at the buzzer to take a 51-49 decision in the lone meeting last season.
NEXT TIME OUT
For the first time this season, New Haven will make its debut at Charger Gymnasium when they welcome the Pace Setters to West Haven after taking the weekend to recuperate. New Haven and Pace will open up a doubleheader with the men's team on Tuesday, November 21 with opening tip in the conference battle slated for 5:30 p.m. All of the action will be available live on NE10Now.tv.

After opening the season with an average of 26 points across the first two games of the season, Lindsay Hogan (Bayville, N.Y./Locust Valley) picked up the first Northeast-10 Player of the Week accolades that were dolled out on Monday by the league office.
