INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – For the 36th time in program history, the New Haven volleyball team will play for an NCAA Championship, earning the second seed in the NCAA Division II East Region with regional action scheduled for November 30 – December 2.

NE10 co-regular season champion Adelphi was selected as the top seed and will host the 2023 East Region Championship at The Center for Recreation and Sport in Garden City, N.Y. In addition to this being the Chargers 36th overall appearance in the national tournament, New Haven makes its 16th appearance in the last 17 seasons.

As the second seed, New Haven will take on the seventh seeded Mercy Mavericks in the opening round. The number two seed in the East Coast Conference Championship, Mercy (14-8) dropped its semifinal match in the conference tournament in four sets to Molloy.  

The 2023 Northeast-10 Champions and co-regular season champions, New Haven enters the national tournament with a 23-9 overall record and is led by NE10 Player of the Year, junior outside hitter Macy Brown (Cadillac, Mich./Cadillac) and NE10 Setter of the Year, senior Michelle Henwood (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico/Academia Maria Reina). Brown led all hitters in the NE10 by more than 125 kills, entering the postseason with 434 kills, hitting .231. Henwood surpassed 1,000 assists over the NE10 Championship weekend and is the only player in the NE10 to surpass that mark, entering the NCAA playoffs with 1,056 assists. Additionally, New Haven will turn to a pair of freshman hitters in Grace Juergens (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township) and Peyton Mast (Park Hills, Ky./Notre Dame Academy) who are second and third on the team with 272 and 235 kills, respectively.

The quarterfinal winner between New Haven and Mercy will meet the winner of third seeded Bentley (22-6) and sixth seeded Southern New Hampshire (13-12) in the East Region semifinal round on Friday, December 1. The regional championship match will take place on Saturday, December 2.

The other half of the bracket features top seeded Adelphi (25-6) against eighth seeded Bridgeport (26-7) and fourth seeded American International (16-10) versus fifth seeded Daemen (24-5).
