FULL NEFW ALL-NEW ENGLAND TEAM RELEASE

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. –
Ahead of the New England Football Writers (NEFW) Association's annual dinner, three players from the Northeast-10 Conference Champion New Haven Chargers football team have been named All-New England, part of 31 total players honored by the NEFW.

New Haven's three honorees is tied for the most among the 19 schools who have at least one player represented, joining Division III schools Springfield, Endicott, Trinity and Anna Maria College. The three Chargers are also a part of 7 from the Northeast-10 which leads the six conferences that make up Division II and Division II throughout New England.

Defense led the way for New Haven in its All-New England selections with senior defensive lineman Jack Quander (Gainsville, Va./Patriot) and junior defensive back Giye Jenkins (West Orange, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) each picking up the distinction, the first of their collegiate careers. Quander and Jenkins were part of four named to each position, while Jenkins is the youngest among his position with the other three all seniors.

Combined, Quander and Jenkins racked up 96 total tackles and were responsible for six interceptions. Jenkins led the way in both instances, finishing the season with 57 total tackles, which included four for loss, while picking off five interceptions which he returned for 63 yards and one for a touchdown. Additionally, he was credited with a team-high eight pass breakups. Quander finished the year with 39 tackles and second on the team with nine tackles for loss, including 2.5 sacks. In addition to adding an interception he also had a fumble recovery and added a team-high five QB hurries.

Rounding out the Chargers honors was graduate wide receiver Dev Holmes (Troy, N.Y./Troy) who was the lone return specialist honored by the NEFW. Holmes wrapped up his career with 280 punt return yards on 16 attempts for an average of 17.5 yards per return. He also returned one for a touchdown and saw his longest go for 62 yards. He added those 16 returns to a team-high 11 receiving touchdowns which came on 39 catches for 63 yards.

All three add this distinction to NE10 First Team All-Conference honors, while both Quander and Jenkins were named Defensive Lineman of the Year and Defensive Back of the Year, respectively, by Northeast-10 Conference coaches.

The full team will be honored at the New England Football Writers Captains and Awards Banquet on Thursday, December 7, at the Sheraton Framingham Hotel and Conference Center.
