MYRTLE BEACH, South Carolina. – The University of New Haven Men's and Women's Track and Field Teams continued their Spring break in South Carolina with their second meet of the trip competing at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational against some of the biggest schools in the nation. With the meet beginning on Thursday and concluding on Saturday, the Chargers were tested in their events to begin the season.  

 

Jordany Dely (Spring Valley, N.Y./Paramus Catholic) continued his dominance in the hurdles, putting on a show in the 110m Hurdles. After running the sixth fastest time in prelims running a 14.41, Dely qualified for the finals of the event. In the finals, Dely improved upon his time in the prelims running a 14.13 finishing with the second-fastest time of the event scoring eight points for New Haven. In addition to running the second fastest time of the meet, Dely's time ranked him second in the nation for Division 2 and also broke Dely's own New Haven record in the event. Dely continued to dominate in the hurdles scoring another five points for the Chargers as he finished fourth overall in the 400m Hurdles running 55.92 in the event.

 

Daphna Gerber (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South) picked up the win for the blue and gold in the open 400m. Gerber ran a 1:02.35 and finished with the fastest time of the event to take home the first win of the meet for New Haven.

 

Neva Bostic (Saint Johnsbury, Vt./St. Johnsbury Academy) throwing Javelin scored a point for the blue and gold finishing tenth overall with a final mark of 37.31m

 

Isiah Gibson (Rahway, NJ/Linden) finished second overall in the High Jump B Flight jumping a height of 1.78m. Gibson who opened up the event at 1.73m as his opening height used his first two jumps as a warmup for the event before clearing the height on his third and final jump. Gibson then cleared 1.78m on his first attempt. With the height moving up to 1.83m, Gibson narrowly missed clearing to move on finishing with a final mark of 1.78m which would be the second-best mark of the B Flight.

 

The men's 4x100m relay team of Kenneth Holland (Circleville, N.Y./Pine Bush), Blake Jandreau (Wallingford, Conn./Lyman Hall), Nile Colson (Rochester, N.Y./Aquinas Institute), and Jason Lorent (Shelton, Conn./Shelton) finished fifth overall in the event running a time of 42.68 to score five points for the Chargers.

 

Overall the women's team finished with one point and the men's team finished with 18 overall points. With their trip coming to a close the Chargers prepare to return home to prepare for their upcoming meets closer to home with marks and time on the board and in their heads. The Chargers return to the nutmeg state and will return to the track at the end of March to compete in New Jersey at Ramapo College.
