OCEAN BREEZE, N.Y. – New Haven Track and Field competed at the Seahawk Shootout on Friday, Dec. 12. The Blue & Gold set multiple records en route to another strong showing, building on its momentum from last weekend.
On the women's side,
Jada Kamtha (St. Catherine, Jamaica/Wolmer's Trust High School for Girls) finished in sixth place with a 8.63s time in the women's 60m hurdles. Bernadette Carpel (3:15.46s) and
Violet Coyle (South Salem, N.Y./John Jay) (3:18.27s) finished sixth and eighth in the 1,000m run. New Haven's 4x200m relay, made up of
Lakay-Sha Clarke (/),
Jada Kamtha (St. Catherine, Jamaica/Wolmer's Trust High School for Girls),
Divine Kabongo (Naugatuck, Conn./Naugatuck), and
Aniya Bush (Williamstown, N.J./Williamstown) placed eighth with a time of 1:44.84.
On the men's side,
Amir Phelmetto (/) took seventh in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.40s. Freshman
Jhelani Anderson's (Bronx, N.Y./DeWitt Clinton) time of 6.79s in the 60m dash not only took home the top spot in the event, but also set a New Haven program record.
Mohammed Abunar (Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull) finished in eighth place in the one mile run, completing his four laps in 4:27.03.
Andrew Ferguson (Deep River, Conn./Valley Regional) slotted in ninth place in the 300m dash, with a 34.89s time. In the men's 1,000m run,
Thomas Conklin (Wallingford, Conn./Lyman Hall) earned second place with a time of 2:28.69 while
Noah Hurd (Wrentham, Mass./King Philip Regional) finished sixth, running 2:34.07. Conklin's time was a New Haven program record.
Moving onto the field events, Junior
Richard Fortune's (/) 14.75m throw in shot put earned him seventh place.
Matthew Steele (North Kingstown, R.I./Bishop Hendricken) (14.32m) and
Noah Cooper (Hopatchong, N.J./Union Catholic) (14.15m) finished sixth and seventh in triple jump.
Declan McGrellis (Frederica, Md./Frederica) set a New Haven program record with a pole vault result of 4.20m.
New Haven's next meet is on Wednesday, Jan. 7, as it travels to Smithfield, R.I. to take part in the Bryant Throws Competition.
