MANSFIELD, Mass. – In a pair of starts and five appearances overall last week, freshman pitcher Skylar Griffin (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur) finished with a 1.03 ERA across 20.1 innings of work highlighted by a complete game shutout of Saint Michael's on Sunday to earn Northeast-10 Rookie of the Week accolades as announced by the league office.
Overall, Griffin made a pair of appearances against both Molloy and Franklin Pierce last week. In the midweek doubleheader against the Lions, Griffin threw a total of 8.2 innings and surrendered a single unearned run while allowing five total hits.
Her highlight of the week came in the second game of the Sunday doubleheader against Saint Michael's as she picked up her second start of the season, throwing her first complete game of the year to earn the victory in a 1-0 decision. The right hander gave up two hits in the game and struck out five batters, securing the victory with a strikeout with two runners on in the top of the seventh inning.
Griffin and the Chargers will return to action on Wednesday afternoon when they close out a week-plus homestand with a visit from the Staten Island Dolphins. The non-conference doubleheader is scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. first pitch at the New Haven Softball Field.
