MANSFIELD, Mass. – With his second interception of the season, junior defensive back Giye Jenkins (West Orange, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) helped lead a New Haven defense that held Bentley without an offensive touchdown, all leading to him being named the Northeat-10 Defensive Player of the Week.
Overall for the game, Jenkins finished with six tackles, including a half tackle for loss while returning his interception 28 yards into Bentley territory. For the season, Jenkins is fifth on the team with nine total tackles, while his two interceptions is tied for the most in the NE10 and his 1.0 interception per game average is fifth best in the nation.
Jenkins and the Chargers return to action on Saturday, September 16 when they host crosstown rival Southern Connecticut for the annual Battle of the Elm City, one that has fallen in favor of the Blue and Gold for the last 12 straight seasons. Kickoff from DellaCamera Stadium on Saturday is set for 1:00 p.m. with all of the action available live on NE10Now.tv.
