THE LEAD
After a quick stop on the road in New Hampshire, New Haven returns to its home court on Saturday as they welcome the Saint Rose Golden Knights for the second of three-straight weekends with a home game. The Chargers are also looking to snap a three-game skid which dates back to January 6, while extended the Chargers have come up short in four of the five games since the calendar rolled over to 2024.
SCOUTING NEW HAVEN
New Haven looks to get back into the win column after suffering its third straight loss at the hands of Franklin Pierce on Wednesday night in the hills of New Hampshire. For much of the season thus far it has been youth that has led the way for the Chargers with two of the top three scorers in their first season of eligibility. Leading the way is true freshman Jah'Likai King (Newburgh, N.Y./Newburgh Free Academy) who leads all scorers averaging 15.0 ppg. The rookie guard is also among the leaders with 36 assists and 29 steals and has scored 20+ in his last two games and five times total this season. The other rookie that has made an impact this season is redshirt sophomore Ethan Simmon (Edison, N.J./St. Joseph Metuchen) who is third on the team averaging 12.2 ppg, while he is second overall in rebounding at 4.0 rebounds per game. Sandwiched between the two rookie is senior guard Davontrey Thomas (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Poughkeepsie) who has scored in double figures in the last 14 straight games and 15 of the 16 games this season. For the year, Thomas is averaging 14.3 ppg and leads the team from beyond the arc with 36 three pointers as he continues to streak up the all-time scoring and all-time three pointer career record lists.
SCOUTING SAINT ROSE
After snapping five-game skid in their last outing against Southern New Hampshire, which was also their first win in the 2024 calendar year, the Golden Knights enter Saturday averaging 74.3 points per game, just shy of the total they are allowing from opponents (74.8). Individually, three Golden Knights average in double figures led by Tristian Jeffries who has started all 16 games, plays the second most minutes on the team, and is averaging a team-high 12.9 ppg. Jeffries is also the biggest outside threat for the Golden Knights with 31 of his 70 field goals from outside the three point arc. He is also third on the team in rebounding with an average of 5.1 per game. Joining him atop the scoring column is Christian-Pierre Louis and Ata Turgut who are putting up 10.8 and 10.2 ppg, respectively.
