MANSFIELD, Mass. – After wrapping up the regular season in a three-way tie for second place in the Northeast-10 Conference, a group of five New Haven women's volleyball players hauled in some hardware on Wednesday afternoon, all earning a spot on NE10 All-Conference teams.
Highlighting the group is junior outside hitter Sofia Kamke (Santa Catarina, Brazil/Escola Tecnica do Vale do Itajai) who was the lone Chargers to score a spot on the All-Conference First Team. Both senior transfer Amber Williams (Lilburn, Ga./Brookwood) and sophomore Grace Juergens (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township) followed with spots on the All-Conference Second Team while sophomore setter Tori Borton (Fort Myers, Fla./Fort Myers) earned a spot on the All-Conference Third Team. Rounding out the accolades was freshman Payton Malinoski (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport Township) who secured a spot on the All-Rookie Team.
A transfer from Eastern Florida State, Kamke closed out the regular season with double figures in the final three matches of the year, giving her 16 double figure matches ahead of the playoffs. Following sweeps of Assumption and Pace to close out the regular season, Kamke was named the NE10 Player of the Week and closed out the 10-match conference regular season leading the team with 122 kills while she was also second on the team with 121 digs.
Juergens and Williams followed Kamke in conference play as they finished with 88 and 85 kills, respectively. Among all three hitters, Williams led the team hitting .393 in league action, suffering just 15 errors, while she also led the team with 30 total blocks. Juergens also added 75 digs and 10 service aces.
The floor marshal for the Chargers, Borton helped her team to a .232 hitting percentage in the 10 conference matches, racking up 295 assists for an average of 8.19 per set while she added 10 kills, eight aces, seven blocks and was third on the team with 105 digs. Malinoski was the Chargers starting libero through the majority of the season and amassed 143 digs, averaging 3.97 across the 10 conference matches. She also led the team with 19 service aces and added 36 digs.
The Chargers will continue to defend their Northeast-10 Championship crown from 2023 on Friday night when they take on the second seeded Bentley Falcons in the semifinal round.
