Chargers Finish Second in FInal Match before Conference

BLOOMFIELD, Conn. –  After a short rest week, the University of New Haven Women's Golf team was back in action, returning to the course, as they stayed in the Nutmeg State and traveled up North to compete at the Hartford Hawks - Gillette Ridge Invitational at Gillette Ridge Golf Club in Bloomfield, Connecticut. Gillette Ridge, an Arnold Palmer Signature course posts a difficult round for golfers with 45 bunkers ranging the course, playing Par 72, (36 in, 36 out) with a spread of holes with the bunkers and water hazards coming into play. New Haven was one of eight teams competing at the event, and one of five from the Northeast 10. 

 

Wynter Flores (San Antonio, Texas/Incarnate Word) led the way for the Chargers and led the field after the first day posting a +2 (74) and playing -1 (35) on the back nine. On day two Flores would finish +11 (83) and would post a +13 (157) for the tournament to finish tied for fourth overall.

Sophia Silva (San Antonio, Texas/Incarnate Word) finished 7, overall as she carded an opening round of +6 (78), followed by a second round +12 (84) to shoot a +18 (162). 

 

Erin Earl (London, England/Saffron Walden County Day)y finished 8, overall after carding an opening round +11 (83) before bouncing back and carding a second round +9 (81) to finish the tournament +20 (164)

 

Isabella Thomas (Oxford, Conn./Laurelton Hall) finished tied 10, carding an opening round +13 (85) before bouncing back and carding a second round +11 (83) to finish the tournament +24 (168)

 

Sofia Campo (/) finished 14 overall, opening up with a first-round +11 (83) and carding a second-round +17 (89) to finish the tournament +28 (172).

 

Overall the Chargers finished second overall shooting a combined +73 (649) finishing the tournament second to NE10 foe Franklin Pierce as the two teams prepare for a rematch ahead of the Conference Championships.

 

The Chargers now will defend their conference crown as they travel to Massachusetts, to play at 

Blackstone National Golf Course in Sutton, Massachusetts for the Northeast 10 Conference Championships. The Championships begin on Saturday, September 28 with the final round being on Monday, September 30.
