NORTHBOROUGH, MASS – The IWLCA announced its end of year All-Region Teams on Wednesday afternoon, with five Chargers being named to the All-Region Teams. After being selected to the All-Region Teams, they are now eligible for the IWLCA Division II All-America Team.
Katie Schenk (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug), Gianna Caprioli (Clinton Corners, N.Y./Franklin Delano Roosevelt), and Karly King (Branford, Conn./Branford) were all named First-Team All Region while Maddie Sage and Caitlin Seleny (Derry, N.H./Pinkerton) both garnered Second-Team All Region honors.
New Haven's first representative, Schenk finished her season as the seventh player in program history to score 60 goals in a single season, totaling 66. Her 66 goals is fourth-most in a single season in program history. Schenk also led the team in points (82) and tied for second in assists (16).
Another sniper, Caprioli, finished with 51 goals on the season, a new career high. Her 67 points ranked second on the team behind Schenk and the midfielders each finished with 16 assists, tying them for second on the team.
Karly King (Branford, Conn./Branford) anchored a back end that fueled the Chargers all the way to the second round in the NCAA Tournament. The graduate student from Branford, CT scored a goal on her only shot of the season, caused 21 turnovers, fielded 39 ground balls, and positioned herself to come away with 13 draw controls.
Sage, who set career highs across the board in playing time, finished with 137 saves in 19 games while registering a career-high 13 wins. The 13 wins ranks tied for second in a single season in program history. Sage's 1,055:37 also ranks in the top-five for minutes played by a goalie in program history.
Seleny finished as the team's primary set-up option, as the junior's 23 assists ranked first on the team. Her 31 goals ranked fourth on the team, and 54 points rounded out the top trio behind Schenk and Caprioli.
