WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the diamond and in the classroom. New Haven Baseball saw four of its players named to this year's teams.
Joseph Frazetta,
Matt McIntire (Williamstown, N.J./Williamstown),
Tyler Wells (Danville, Vt./St. Johnsbury Academy), and
Liam Carroll (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa) were all named to the Division II CSC Academic All-District Team.
Frazetta, who earned his first CSC Academic All-District selection, hit .286 in 41 games (all starts) this season. Frazetta's .286 average was second on the team as was his total of 25 RBIs. He finished tied for the team lead in hits with 46 knocks. His 14 doubles paced the Chargers.
McIntire, primarily serving as the designated hitter, batted .280 with an .853 OPS. His five home runs tied for first on the team while his 68 total bases paced the Blue & Gold. McIntire's 24 walks finished second on the team and pushed his OBP to .400 for the season.
Wells, who finishes his career at New Haven having played 189 games in the Blue & Gold, finds himself on the CSC Academic All-District Team for the second time. A mainstay in the outfield for New Haven, Wells slashed .254/.351/.354 and registered an OPS of .705 this season. He was also one of four Chargers to finish with at least 20 walks this season.
Carroll totaled 57.0 innings on the mound for the Blue & Gold, leading the Chargers pitching staff. His five wins was also the most among New Haven's pitchers. Of his 11 appearances, Carroll started 10 games on the hill. During those 10 games, he threw a one-hit complete game shutout against St. Thomas Aquinas on Mar. 15 and another complete game against Holy Family on Apr. 4.
