UMass Lowell Tops New Haven Men's Soccer

(09-12-09) LOWELL, Mass. - The University of New Haven men's soccer team fell at UMass Lowell, 2-0, on Saturday afternoon. The Chargers drop to 1-3 overall and 0-3 in the Northeast-10, while the River Hawks improve to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in the conference.

After a back-and-forth opening 20 minutes, the River Hawks took control and found the back of the net in the 29th minute. A free kick opportunity allowed UMass Lowell to get the ball inside the box and Stephen Potcher tapped the ball in to put the River Hawks up, 1-0, prior to halftime.

The River Hawks added an insurance goal in the 52nd minute for the 2-0 win.

New Haven's best opportunity came in the 27th minute when Steven Gennuso connected with the ball, forcing River Hawk goalie, Ryan Richards to make the save.

Charger goalkeeper Jonathan Creem recorded three saves on the day, while J.J. Comeau also saw time in goal. Leading the UNH offense was Gennuso, who added two more shots. Roberto Novoa also added two shot in the loss.

UNH was outshot by a 6-15 margin, while UMass Lowell also held the advantage in corner kicks, 5-2.

The Chargers are back in action Wednesday, September 16 when the host St. Rose at Kayo Field. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
