(09-02-09) WEST HAVEN, Conn. - The University of New Haven men's soccer team defeated Concordia College 4-0 Wednesday afternoon at Kayo Field. The Chargers improve to 1-1 on the season, while the Clippers fall to 0-3.
New Haven opened the scoring in the eighth minute when Steven Gennuso connected for a goal with an assist form Oren Corridon. The goal was Gennuso's second of the season and kick started the Charger offense for the afternoon.
Corridon's productive afternoon did not stop with the assist on the Chargers first goal. Later in the first half he capitalized on a shot from just outside the 18-yard box. The Clipppers did not mount much of an attack in the first half, compiling three shots and generating few scoring chances.
The Chargers continued their scoring ways with tallies in the 81st and 88th minutes, off a shot by Nick Pezzente and Roberto Novoa, respectively. Joel Rodriguez assisted on the Pezzente's score, while Trent McCaskill made the crossing pass to Novoa. The Clippers had numerous chances off corner kicks in the second half, but the New Haven defense, led by goalie Jonathan Creem, kept the Clippers at bay.
The Chargers improve to 14-4-1 all-time against the Clippers. The Chargers return to action on Tuesday, September 8 at Assumption. New Haven's next home is September 16 against The College of St. Rose at Kayo Field.
