Saint Michael's Outlasts Women's Basketball, 64-57

BOX SCORE COLCHESTER, Vt. - The University of New Haven women's basketball team dropped a Northeast-10 Conference game, 64-57 to Saint Michael's College Tuesday night. The Chragers dropped to 2-14 overall and 2-10 in the NE-10 with the loss. The Purple Knights improved to 7-9 overall and 4-8 in conference play.

Anh-Dao Tran (Webster, Mass./Holy Name) led the Chargers with 22 points on 8-of-17 shooting. Bria Moore (West Haven, Conn./Hill Regional Career) recorded 13 points and nine rebounds, while Aquillin Hayes (Harlem, N.Y./Wings Academy) added eight points and 10 boards.

The Chargers were the first to score on Tuesday night after Tran connected from three-point territory. UNH and Saint Michael's exchanged the lead eight times in the first 6:30. Audrey Cunningham (Germantown, Md./Seneca Valley) put in a long ball to give the Chargers a 15-14 lead with 13:25 left in the first half. Tran added five more unanswered points to put New Haven ahead by six, 20-14. The Purple Knights would even the score at 20-20 before the Chargers once again went on a scoring spree to take a seven-point lead off a layup by Hayes at the 7:08 mark. In the final minutes of the first half, Saint Michael's cut the Chargers' lead to one in the final two minutes. New Haven would then score the final five points of the half to hold on to a 37-31 lead at halftime.

New Haven shot 48-percent from the floor in the first half, connecting on 14-of-29 field goals. The Chargers also connected on 9-of-14 three-point field goals in the first half.

The Purple Knights scored the first two points of the second half, but New Haven scored the next four and held on to a 41-33 lead until the 13:14 mark. Saint Michael's then went on an 8-0 run to take a 43-41 lead. The teams again exchanged the lead four times before the Purple Knight came out ahead at the five-minute mark. The Chargers kept the score within range and Tran gave them a 57-56 lead with just over one minute remaining in the second half. Saint Michael's then made a free throw and offensive rebound before taking a lead in the final minute. Two UNH field goal attempts fell short in the final minute and the Purple Knights connected at the free throw line to hold on for the seven-point victory.

The Chargers struggled from the field in the second half, shooting just 23-percent from the field. The Chargers trailed 43-40 on the board and turned the ball over 23 times in the loss. The Purple Knights also controlled the paint in the win, holding a 30-12 advantage in points in the paint.
