Men's Soccer Defeated by Franklin Pierce, 2-0

BOX SCORE RINDGE, N.H. - The University of New Haven men's soccer team dropped a Northeast-10 Conference game 2-0 at Frankin Pierce University Saturday evening. The Chargers dropped to 1-13-1 overall and 1-10-0 in the NE-10 with the loss, while the Ravens 7-6-0 overall and 6-4-0 in conference play.

Out-shot 8-4 in the first half, the Chargers played to a scoreless tie with the Ravens through the first 45 minutes. Franklin Pierce scored the eventual game-winning goal in the 60th minute when Pedro Espindola netted his fourth of the season. Four minutes later, Franklin Pierce scored an insurance goal when Gareth Dudney found the back of the net for the fifth time this season.

New Haven's best opportunities came in the final moments of the first half, with its only shot-on-goal of the first stanza. UNH managed just three additional shots-on-goal in the second half, but FPU's Sam Meza stopped all attempts and sealed the shutout.

In total, the Ravens held a 27-8 advantage in shots, inlcuding a 14-4 lead in shots-on-goal. Brothers JP DiTommaso (Farmington, Conn./Farmington) and Sal DiTommaso (Farmington, Conn./Farmington / Central Connecticut State University) each lead the team with three shots. UNH goalkeeper James Pyatsky (Stewart Manor, N.Y./Garden City) anchored the defense with 12 total saves, while allowing two goals.

New Haven closes out its 2013 road schedule on Wednesday, Oct. 30 at Assumption. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m. in Worcester, Mass. The Chargers conclude their season on Friday, Nov. 1 with Senior Day against Bentley at Kayo Field. Game time in West Haven is set for 3 p.m.
