The University of New Haven men's soccer team eyes a repeat of its signature win from last season against visiting Southern New Hampshire. The Chargers (0-4-1) are in search of their first victory of 2013.

New Haven most recently dropped a 3-0 decision to Saint Rose in their Northeast-10 Conference opener on Tuesday, Sept. 17. The Chargers were unable to capitalize on a flurry of offensive chances in the second half, as the Golden Knights' goalkeeping and defense turned away eight corner kick opportunities in the final 45 minutes.

Including an own goal, the Chargers have netted three markers this season, with Sal DiTommaso (Farmington, Conn./Farmington / Central Connecticut State University) and Will Richard (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge) picking up the other two tallies. Goalkeeper James Pyatsky (Stewart Manor, N.Y./Garden City) has done his part to keep New Haven in striking distance, stopping five shots per match between the posts.

The defending Northeast-10 and East Region Champion Penmen from Southern New Hampshire lost their No. 7 preseason ranking after a season-opening home defeat against Post but have since run off three-straight victories. Most recently, SNHU hosted and topped Franklin Pierce, 1-0, in its NE-10 opener to improve to 3-1-0 overall and 1-0-0 in the conference.

Seven different Penmen have accounted for the team's seven goals this fall, as SNHU is outscoring its opponents by a 7-2 margin through four matches. The club returns four All-Northeast-10 performers from last fall, including goalkeeper Dom DiMaggio. DiMaggio has played all but 13 minutes in goal, facing only 10 shots thanks in large part to All-NE-10 backs Jonathan Lupinelli and Dominic Samuel, en route to a 0.52 goals-against average and a .800 save percentage. The Penmen keeper has one solo shutout as well as a combined clean sheet this season.

The last meeting between the two programs was a thrilling 2-1 victory for the Chargers capped by a 109th-minute golden goal off the foot of Andres Torres (Medellín, Colombia/Norwalk (Conn.) / Adelphi University) on Oct. 20, 2012 in Manchester. The win over then-No. 15 SNHU was the first for New Haven over a nationally-ranked foe since 2008 and snapped a 16-match losing streak and 21-match winless streak against the Penmen.
