ROXBURY, Mass. – Medalist honors for Michael Kandolin (Columbia, Conn./Windham) in the weight throw led a dominating performance by the New Haven throwers at the Joe Donahue Games hosted by Northeastern University on Friday evening.
Overall, Kandollin was part of a one-two-three finish for the Chargers in the weight throw, joined by Dillon Swaine (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Lakeland) and Jonathan Pierre (Braintree, Mass./Archbishop Williams) who finished second and third, respectively. Kandolin's top finish came courtesy of his first attempt on the evening that reached a distance of 17.78-meters (58' 4.0"). That distance for Kandolin was just shy of two meters farther than Swaine's second place distance of 15.87-meters (52' 1.0"), while Pierre hit a distance of 15.85-meters on his first attempts.
The weight throw finish for Pierre was part of a pair of third place accolades as he matched that performance in the shot put with a personal-best distance of 13.93-meters (45' 8.5") on his first attempt in that event.
Also posting medal honors for New Haven was Gabriel Abdul-Karim (New Haven, Conn.) who distance of 14.01-meters (45' 3.75"), which came on his final attempt, led the way in the triple jump. He was also part of a one-two-three punch for New Haven in the triple jump as twins Jackson Marescot (Spring Valley, N.Y./Ramapo) (13.32m) and Jacky Marescot (Spring Valley, N.Y./Ramapo) (13.17m) posted second and third place distances, respectively.
Rounding out the top field performances for New Haven was Jelani Green who closed out the long jump in third place overall with his distance of 6.77-meters (22' 2.5") which came on his first of six attempts.
On the track, New Haven was led by its middle distance runners, Kevin Clyne (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) and Michael Reddy (Forest Hills, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) who each took home top-five finishes. Of the pair, Reddy posted the best finish with a third place time in the 800-meter run with his time of 1:55.48. Clyne closed out the 500-meter run in a time of 1:13.08 to finish fourth overall in the event.
