MANSFIELD, Mass. – For the second consecutive week, senior thrower Michael Kandolin (Columbia, Conn./Windham) has been selected as the Northeast 10 Male Field Athlete of the Week. The conference also recognized Blake Jandreau (Wallingford, Conn./Lyman Hall), Brett Deri (Newtown, Conn./Newtown), Kevin Antoine (Hamden, Conn./Hamden) and Matthew McLaughlin (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) – the four members of New Haven's 4x100 meter relay team - as its Relay Team of the Week.
This is the conference-leading fourth time this outdoor season that Kandolin has been named the field athlete of the week. His latest honor comes on the heels of his performance at Sunday's Yale Springtime Invitational, where he eclipsed the 60-meter mark for the second straight week and just the second time in program history in the hammer throw, winning the event at 60.13 meters. He once again surpassed the NCAA Div. II provisional qualifying mark and came within 45 centimeters of his own school record that he set on April 20. Kandolin also took second place in the discus with a toss that sailed 48.91 meters.
The Chargers' 4x100 relay team of Jandreau, Deri, Antoine and McLaughlin ran the sixth-fastest time this season in the NE10 at Sunday's Yale Springtime Invitational, placing fifth overall after crossing the finish in 43.14 seconds. The Chargers were joined by four Division I schools in the field of seven teams.
New Haven will compete at the Northeast 10 Championship meet this Friday and Saturday on the campus of Southern New Hampshire University.
